what car seat?

My 11mo ds has just about outgrown his maxi cosi cabriofix and we are planning to get him an erf seat. I'm a bit stuck on which one to go for so any advice would be fantastic. He's quite long and doesn't like being in a car seat so the more room the better! We would like a seat with the option of forwards facing as well. We'd like an isofix option but currently do not have a base for his cabriofix. Thank

Britax DualFix. Pricey but faces forwards and backwards, swivels to make it easy to get them in and out, isofix base

I'm not sure that the DualFix is the best option for a tall/long child, and if you opt for an ISOFIX seat it will only last up to 18kgs. A seatbelted one can be used rear facing right up to 25kgs.

I think the Axkid seats are the best for taller children, or BeSafe. They both do ISOFIX seats.

You don't really need a swivel feature on the seat, it is so easy to get a child in and out of any rear facing seat because the car door does not get in your way at all.

DD is tall, she seems fine in it.

The axkid and besafe shells are taller and roomier iirc plus the belt fix ones that go up to 25kg are designed to take a bigger child rear facing for longer than an 18kg seat like the dualfix. It depends what you want really, if I was buying for a 3 door car for instance then I would most likely shell out for a swivel seat like the dualfix or sirona, in a 5 door I wouldn't thus more likely to go for longevity.

We have joie seats but dd2 is going to outgrow the one we have (the tilt) rear facing before she's 3, we will have to think again at that point. The stages I think is pretty good and roomy as it's also a ff seat after 18kg. I like Isofix, for one of my dds I would have chosen that over larger weight capacity because they are 50-75th centile so it would take them to age 5, ds was 98th centile so a 25kg seat would have been the best option.

I'm not convinced how much store I would set in which reports on this subject, they buy in their results and are only partially based on crash test results. I guess you need to look at them carefully to ascertain which bits are relevant to the safety of the seat in an accident and which bits relate to user friendliness, fabrics, convenience, complexity of fitting the seat etc.

Is he actually tall, though, I remember panicking that DS was about to grow out of his baby seat because I didn't realise that their weight gain slows down so much after 12 months. Whereas he went from 3 to 11kg in that one year, they then only gain about 2kg from age 1-2 years.
