Car seat from birth with isofix

So I foolishly rushed into buying a cheap car seat that is not isofix and does birth to age 4, RF/FF. I've tried it in my 2003 Seat leon and I'm not happy with how secure it feels so I want an isofix base plus bucket type baby carrier that clips in, the type that you unclip and it has a handle so you carry inside if baby still asleep etc. Now I know you can't put a price on safety but I really don't want to pay 130-150 for the seat plus 100 for the base when it'll only be used for 9 months ish. Help.

Can you return it and get another one?

I'm not sure, I ordered it ages ago from Kiddicare. The thing is that it does to age 4 and will go in any car so might come in useful and it was only about £30-40 so may as well keep it for grandparents cars etc. Just want advice on the newborn one really. The Internet won't give me a straight answer on what works with what.

Klippan kiss. Birth to 18kg rear facing, should last average child till about four. Isofix or belt fitting option. Removable infant carrier. It is expensive but it will last. Look at you tube for video. I bought mine from the in car safety centre.

It won't be used for 9 months! My DS is the 75th centile and he was 16 months old before he outgrew his cabriofix.

Maxi cosi cabriofix or pebble both have isofix bases and you can get adapters to fit most prams

We have a maxicosi cabriofix. Agree with PP that unless you have a huge baby they'll be in it well over a year. Mine were 18m before moving up.

I just put my pristine one (Britax) with Isofix on EBay for a 99p start price.
I need to get rid - no more babies. Lots of people in the same position.

It's not really safe to buy a second hand seat from ebay tbh, you won't know the history.

Do you have a pushchair that you can clip a seat onto? It might be worth getting a compatible one.

I have a Britax BabySafe seat and it seems good to me.

There is no danger of the Isofix base being trashed though, without it being visibly damaged.
Car seats could be checked for any problems, surely?
Our Isofix base cost more than the seat. Definitely worth taking a look if anyone local to you is selling one, and you can go and view it.

The Maxi Cosi Cabriofix and Pebble are both excellent seats that last most children until way over 1 year. You can usually get these seats for under £100 new if you're not fussy about "last seasons" fabrics.

The Easyfix base is the cheapest in their range of isofix bases, and is the one I would plump for. You pay a bit more for the other Maxi Cosi bases because they are compatible with the group 1 seats, but in reality it's cheaper to buy a group 1 seat with Isofix built in.

Sorry, the EasyFix is only compatible with the CabrioFix, not the Pebble.

EasyFix and CabrioFix are a great combination though. Do check compatibility on the Maxi Cosi website though. Unfortunately not all car seats fit all cars.

I have this infant carrier, it's better than the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix (that I have also used, borrowed from a friend) because it has a longer 'back' so it can accommodate a taller baby and it doesn't get narrower as you go up the back, so the shoulders of a taller/older baby are not squashed if you see what I mean.

My daughter is nearly 28 months old, she's perhaps a little below the average height for her age but not by much, and she can still fit in the Britax BabySafe. I will admit that she is petite, only weighing 23lbs, and that by this age most other children would have outgrown the seat by weight, but it just shows that it would genuinely last most babies right up to 13kgs because of the length of the seat shell.

From Kiddicare it would be £146 in total for the Britax BabySafe and a seatbelted base, or £162 with an ISOFIX base.

DS grew out of his maxi cosi cabriofix at 15 months and he was a big big boy. You would get longer for a smaller baby.

And then use it again for siblings of course!

Plus depending on the buggy you get, cabriofix fits on a fair few of them with adapters

Britax babysafe really good seat and has one of the tallest backs so will last ages. Maxi cosy seat go out of date after 6 years so may only last one child. Britax last 10 years.

OP, I think kiddicare have a one year returns policy.

I'm getting a handmedown m&p pramette. Think I will return the original seat.

I have a Joie i-Anchor seat with base which was about £260 all-in (0-4 years rf). It can be used from birth but I have a 22 month old dd still rf and she loves it.

Anyway, one of my friends has it too and they have the Gemm baby seat that fits on the same base so she can use it on the pushchair too.

Then at least you can buy one base that has a seat you can carry and put on your pushchair and then the same base can be used up to 4.

Would definitely recommend going in for a fitting before you buy, then you can be sure.

Update: ended up disregarding the pram as don't think I'll often need to clip car seat to pram base so decisions got a lot easier. Bought a secondhand familyfix base and brand new cabriofix seat. Couldn't be happier, feels very secure in the car. Total spend £151. Anyone in market for cabriofix get to JL. Best price and nice to get personal service and fitting service if you need the help.
