HBB advice for big 2.8 ds

Ds is 17.5kg. Currently has a maxi cosi opal in my car and britax first class in dh's car. He also regularly travels in both sets of grandparent's cars. They each have a kiddicare tarmac.

He will need a new seat at 18kg but he is only 2y8m. Can't afford to shell out for a very expensive seat. Are there any HBB seats which make it difficult to reach the buckle? I am concerned about making this change while he is still so young!

He's far to young for a hbb. Not until at least 5 ideally as I find that's when they understand they need to sit still/ not reach down for things etc.

Have a look at the britax two way elite. And if you get it you may as well install it rear facing although can be forward facing too.

BTW the two is easy to install. Takes minutes so only really need one or two.

Thanks. It's the 2 way elite pretty much the only option? I don't understand why there is such a gap in the market my mate is in a similar position with a similar aged toddler, so I know this isn't a totally freak situation! I know it will prob take a couple of months to put on that half kilo but like you say, far too young to be put of a 5 point harness.

Sadly yep only seat. there is a really good post on about bone maturity on rear facing toddlers and why hbb not good for younger children

I'm in the same situation, DS is 3.3 so a little bit older, but is now 19+kg

He was in a Besafe izi combi but outgrew that a while ago. He's been in the Britax TWE for a while (unfortunately ff) as it won't fit behind the driver's seat rf due to DH's driving position. Unfortunately, DD is now outgrowing her infant carrier so we need the TWE for her in (and the Besafe in the other car) so we're looking at group 2/3 car seats now. I don't really want to get another TWE as I don't think it'll last DS that long (he's very tall) and I'm not convinced it's a great seat ff anyway.

Absolutely patches. Ds also still needs a buggy on days out. He takes an awful lot of pushing in the Maclaren. If he wants to stop the he just puts his feet on the floor! Manufacturers need to wake up.

I'm not sure I'll convince ds to rf again, he's been ff for so long. Now I know better I'll certainly keep baby dd rf for longer.

Yes, very light and easy to move between two cars. If you want him rf you'll need an extra set of tethers to leave in place in the spare car as that's the only difficult bit to put in. They're only £20 or so I believe so worth getting if you're transferring it between cars and using it rf in both.

DD is 2.8 and from what I have read it is now not safe for her (18kg) to be in the 5 point harness so I now use a HBB with seatbelt. It goes by weight not age.
She is very good though, never takes her belt off and sits back well.

P.s. there is no way on this earth she would rf again.

My DS (3) is very heavy and weighs 24kg , I sympathise with you and know how hard it is to find a good car seat x :)
