Rear facing car seat - can it go in the middle?

Looking at getting a rear facing car seat for my DC3 as I've been reading about safety benefits. She's currently in rear facing baby carrier in middle back seat of our smax, any reason a rear facing seat couldn't go in the same spot? Read something about a britax one tethering to the seat in front?
Any advice or seat recommendations appreciated!
Thanks

I've got a rear facing seat and it is massive. I'm not sure you would fit three children in the back with one. It also tethers to the seat in front. If you have isofix it won't need tethering but I think even the isofix ones are big.

Hi yes lots can go in middle.

It is also possible to get 3 across back. Www.Rearfacingtoddlers.com have lots of pics

Thanks. We do have isofix and three full size seats in back and other two just on boosters. Probably need to try one, do any normal outlets stock them?

Some Mothercare stores have the Britax Maxi Fix and Dual fix or the BeSafe Combi but you would need to check your local store before visiting, as not all of them have those seats or have been trained. Most Halfords and Mothercare stores have the Joie Stages, so you could at least try that one for size. Aside from that, check with your independent baby shops to see what they stock.
