Where does your baby go in the car? Front or back?

Just wondering what the general consensus was on positioning of baby (group 0+) car seats. The back or the front? Is it better in the front so you can keep an eye on the baby? (I know you would have to turn the airbags off for it to go in the front.) Or is it safer for them to always be in the back?

The car seat that I wanted will only fit in the front of my car (according to the manufacturer's website) and on a base. Not sure why. I was wondering if this would be a problem or if it was normal to have it in the front anyway.

Yes, that's right. Britax didn't list any Babysafe seats as an option unless used on a base in the front (I was looking at the Britax as it would fit on the pram and also is supposed to be a good seat.)

I could probably use another brand without a base. Or hopefully another brand with a base. Base not vital but they seem convenient & sturdier than seat alone.

That's weird, I have just bought a Babysafe seat that just belts into the car.

lilyaldrin · 27/01/2014 16:34

I also got it as it's compatible with the pram (Oyster).

ilovepowerhoop · 27/01/2014 16:40

not all seats are compatible with all cars which is why some car seat manufacturers have car seat fit finder guides on their website.

Go for a base if you can. It's much easier when getting them in and out.

It must be pretty unusual for an infant seat not to fit in almost any car though, especially a newish car.

BronzeHorseman · 27/01/2014 17:13

When I had babies they always went in the back because of the airbag in the front.

FoxMulder · 28/01/2014 08:23

That's what I thought too lily which is why I was surprised that the Britax Fitfinder said it's seats wouldn't fit my normal, new-ish car.

never ever in the front.

airbags don't get taken out just disconnected - but if there's an accident they could still go off if triggered by the impact as explained by our mechanic.

I don't even put our kids in the front until they are much older - it sends shivers down my spine seeing toddlers or young kids in booster seats on the front passenger seat (apparently the most dangerous position in any car - in Hungary it's called the MIL seat!Grin )

so no, no and no.

nem, nyet, nein, non......just don't do it.

Where did you buy seat from originally? Can they recheck new car for you. Just because its not listed on britax doesn't mean it won't fit.
