Flying with a car seat - use bubble wrap / packaging?

Just after some advice really when you fly with your car seat in the hold do you package it up with bubble wrap etc to keep it safe?

Would that make it harder for the airline to put the identifying tag on it? Would the airline need to see the seat before it it packaged for any reason?

We did nothing apart from do up the straps and make sure the staff had labelled it correctly.
