Group 0, 1, 2 Car seats

Hello

I am thinking of buying a group 012 seat for my next child but not sure if this is safe? It seems to be a good value for money option but is it too good to be true!

Yes I've been looking too but I'm not sure how I feel about the shield rather than a harness! And budget is quite tight as well... think I went a bit mad on Xmas! Will let you know though what I end up doing- keep me updated too!

If its baby weavers or similar team text then avoid. Rubbish quality. There are bargains around but you are looking at around £100 for decent seat.

Don't do it. The only one is a budget brand sold under various different names (I can't remember which one they used for this car seat) but often use teamtex, nania or babystart. One of their other car seats failed the which tests which are only 10mph faster than the legal requirements, and the seats in general are quite flimsy. I'd be concerned that it would deteriorate through normal wear and tear far before you reach the weight limit. Also the fact that none of the major car seat manufacturers offer them makes me think there's a reason for it, possibly because it's harder to make a seat which caters adequately for three totally different age categories.

I would suggest one of the following:

• Buy a cheap but trustworthy first stage seat, shop around for a good deal, they do come up fairly often. Graco is quite a good cheaper brand or you can often get bundle deals with pushchairs if you're getting one new. Then look for a second hand group 1 seat and buy a cheap high backed booster later, you can get them for about £30 or 40 if you shop around.
• go for the britax first class as your first and second stage seat, you can usually get them for about £100 on offer, it's a good quality seat and will see you through to the booster age.

The main thing is if you want to have another child, you'll probably need the seat again before your child outgrows it. So it's only a saving if you plan to have one child.

I didn't add this yesterday because my battery was dying and I didn't want to lose the whole post but there is one extended rear facing seat (Britax Hi-Way) suitable from birth which goes up to 25kg rather than the usual 18kg for group 1 seats. So that could very well see you through the whole lot if you wanted one to do this, but they tend to be quite a bit more expensive (although probably much cheaper than buying a mid-range group 0, group 1 and group 2 seat separately).
