14 month old & Maxi Cosi Pebble

DD is almost 14 months old and still fits in her Pebble. Her head is not above the top of the seat just yet. We don't have a car so she is in a car seat maybe once or twice a month. I'm not sure how much she weighs but at 12 months was 10.5kg and 76cm long. She doesn't seem to have grown much since then.

The Pebble says suitable for 0-12 months, up to 13kg or when the child's head has reached the top.

What do you think? Should she already be in a stage 2 seat? I know I need to get a new car seat soonish but is it dangerous to use this one for another month or so? All my friends out their babies in stage 2 well before 12 months, I don't really get it Confused

Also, I've seen the New Hauck car seat advertised that can be rear facing until 4yrs old. Is rear facing definitely the way forward or would forward facing be ok for occasional use as we are not likely to get our own car for a while?

TIA!

My Ds is only just over 11kg at 19 months. He would be much too tall for a baby seat now though. There is absolutely no reason not to use the pebble if your daughter still fits in it.

i did get a rear facing seat but then i go out in the car several times a week. I doubt that i would have gone to that expense if i did not have a car.

It's the ridiculous 'rite of passage' getting them ff as soon as possible, even the hv was banging on about it at her 1 year check. I think we moved her into extended rfacing seat at about 15 mths, though she has only just outgrown (head height wise) the pebble at 21/22 mths.

I wouldn't bother getting a new seat yet given the infrequent use of it, but maybe get her weighed at 15/16 mths just to check.

I'd go by weight and height, not age. It's much safer to keep them rear facing so don't worry about what everyone else is doing. ERF seats can be quite complicated and won't fit all cars so I'd check out what's practical with the cars you most often use before making a decision.

DS was in his infant seat until he grew out of it (head at the top) at 18 months. He was still well under 12kg then - he's only 14kg now at 3.5.

My DD is still in her MaxiCosi infant car seat. She is 18 months and 11kgs and head is still within limits. Don't rush it if you don't have to
