Replacing car seat after accident?

DH had a pretty bad smash this week. Despite his many faults, this wasn't actually down to him The airbag went off and the 4x4 is written off.

I know car seats should be replaced after an accident but is this only the case if they are in use? The DCs weren't in the car, but I'm a bit uneasy about using the seats.

I would replace them. Hopefully your insurance will pay.
