Which car seat to get?

Hi,

Pregnant with 1st and I am steering towards the Jane Matrix (lay down) car seat. I really like the idea of taking the seat straight out the car for shopping / if sleeping without disturbing baby... also for long journeys.

I am concerned that it is too bulky for a ford focus when upright?

Can anyone recommend this (as i also like the pram itself) or any alternatives?

I would start with the Which? Best buy list (and worst buys!) to see what have come off as the safest seats. I thought the carrycot style ones did badly in crash tests, but has been a long time since I looked.
You can use a conventional infant carrier (eg maxi cost etc) to put on a frame and go shopping etc. you're right you would not want to leave them in it for very long at the start, about an hour I think. Though they'll probably demand a feed after about an hour and need out anyway!

I had this seat for a mindee years ago and it fitted lying down in a 206 and also sitting upright in the front passenger. I think it's a great seat if you travel a lot. I wouldn't go on which reviews as the final score is not based on safety alone.

Great thanks - good to know that it will fit in a 206 as im sure then it would fit in a focus.

Also i didnt really think about the fact that they would need to be fed often anyway, dont really travel too much. I think i just liked the idea of it and I loved the look and feel of the pram

Had this for dd1. Good seat as we travelled quite a bit. Bit off a faff taking in and out of car using seat belts. Would get isofix if used again. Changed to an isofix strata for dd2 as not really enough room to manoeuvre with dd1's two way elite.

I woild be careful and research the independant safety reports for the matrix. I do remember that some time ago the matrix came out bottom for child safety. Dont remember whether iy was which or another consumer group that did not recommend it as it woild noy have protected yhe baby well in a crash. I'll try to find where i read it.

It was deemed dangerous by the verman st8ftund warentest, by adac and by which.
