Three point harness for 2.5 year old??

So, I'm a bit clueless when it comes to interpreting advice on car seats (I know it's probably not that hard!) - DS is 2.5, 95th percentile for weight (ie heavy!) and looking more and more uncomfortable in his seat. Is he old enough/heavy enough to have the booster style which uses the integral car seatbelt?? Sorry if this is a totally obvious question!

I would wait until he is 18kgs before moving to a high backed booster seat as he is quite young to just be restrained with the adult seat belt.

That was my first thought but he does look awful uncomfy in his current one! What's 18kg in old money?!

18kgs is around 40lbs. Are you fastening him in without a jacket on?

MrsRandom78 · 02/04/2013 08:52

Mostly yes, but some of the really cold days he has had a jacket on. Uncomfortableness is more getting him into seat really as its increasingly difficult to lift him into it but he can't quite clamber up himself.

He has to be 15kg minimum to use a booster like that. But 2.5 is very little to be in a booster seat anyway, so I'd hold out for longer if you can. If he's under 18kg it might be worth looking at a group 123 seat which has a harness you can take out at 18kg.

I had the same prob with my 2.5 year old. I've just bought the Graco nautilus elite 123 seat as he's too light for a booster seat but was squashed into his group 1. Its great, he loves it and there's lots of room for growth.
