Ds will be 3 in may and we have a car seat from asda which I feel that he is getting a bit of big for it. I seen a booster seat at my work and I'm positive it said for children 3-12 years and wondered if this was ok?

And would he be ok sitting in the front? Also wondered if the car seat be used in the front forward facing?

is it a high backed booster? If he is under 18kgs he will still be better off in a seat with a harness. If he is over 18kgs he could go in a high backed booster secured with the adult belt although he is quite young for that. What seat were you looking at?

It is safer for them to sit in the back so thats where both of mine sit.

Thanks,

I think he is still around 16kg and it was a booster seat without a back. I was looking for apramo artemis but when I looked on amazon it says ages 6-12 years.

booster seats without backs are not safe and especially not for a child of that age. Britax have stopped making backless boosters as they do not offer side impact protection. For his age and weight he should still be in a harnessed seat. My two didnt move to a high backed booster until they reached 18kgs which was the maximum weight for the harnessed seat. They still use high backed boosters at age 6 and 9.

Car seat is staying with us for a wee while longer, going to get him weighed and take it from there.

Thanks for your help.

I have recently been in a relatively minor collision where my 6yr old ds was sat in the back in a high backed booster. The other car hit the door where he was sat at approx 45mph. My car is a write off. I have whiplash. Ds had a tiny red mark on his head and small bruise on his leg. I feel utterly sick at the thought of what would have happened to him had he not been in a proper seat with side protection.

The collision happened on a minor 30mph road. My journey was one I take every day through a village, less than a mile. He was in a Britax Evolva 123.

Please do not sit your 3yr old on a backless booster cushion. I am now evangelical on this topic!

Agree with what everyone else says.

Polly Im so glad your son is ok. Ive just brought my 5.5 yr old new high backed boosters. Most of his school friends are in booster cushions. Its madness

Dd1 is nearly 8 and still in a high backed booster, though not harnessed. She is very skinny though and tall. Leave high backed for as long as possible.

Would you consider using a booster seat without the high back for a short trip away with the GPs? Possibly considering DH going by train with our two DDs (4 and 5) to then be picked up by GPs who don't have any car seats, so considered borrowing friend's boosters as he'd be able to carry them with him on the train.

I'd suggest the one you have seen is old stock or the age is for guidance only. Minimum weight for a backless one is 22kg and highback 18kg
