Rf to 25kg advice please

My ds is nearly 18kg so we need a new preferably rf seat or if not a ff with a 5 point hsrness as he's not even 3 yet.

He sleeps lots so his head always falls forward in the kidzone we have just bought for my Ford Focus so I'm looking for one that has s better recline.

I have seen the Britax 2 way elite but it doesnt look like there is much side impact protection there or is that just me?

Is the Britax maxway actually Rf to 25kg? If so, do you think that will fit Rf in dh punto?

I've also seen a graco ff with a 5 point harness but the online opinion as to whether the 5 point harness works up to 25kg appears to be a grey area.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

area.

We have a 2 way elite in my focus and we have just switched it from the reclined fitting to the more upright one (both RF) to give DD more legroom. The upright fitting is bolt upright. DD doesn't seem to mind and falls asleep lolling forward, but it doesn't look very comfy. It doesn't have high sides. We bought it on the recommendation of the In Car Safety Centre and I would intact them for advice.

I have the max way. It's fine, really sturdy and DS is happy in it. It's definitely rf to 25kg. That's one of the main reasons I chose it, DS is sturdy to say the least!

Not much of a recline to it though, it's pretty upright. Although saying that DS sleeps quite happily in it as its got a nice head hugger.

Couldn't say about the fit. It is big but then as far as I know they all are. If you google it there's a page in the hand book with a list of compatible cars I think.

I lied, I have the Multitech, not the maxway. Blush

Hi Tokengirl .... did you know you can affect the angle of your Kidzone by rolling up a small hand towel or small blanket and using it as a wedge under the seat to improve the recline ?
Securatot say that Axkid have approved this method of getting a better recline in cars with bucketed/sloped back seats to correct the angle of your cars back seat and provide a flat base for the Kidzone to be installed on. Call them if you need clarification but you certainly dont need to go to the expense of another seat !!

I have a Hi-Way II for DD3 and the recline can be increased with a block, which we do as DD3 does still nap in the car.

We got ours from the Milton Keynes In Car Safety Centre as we wanted to try out a few before buying.

The safest thing to do is consult Which?

Personally I wouldn't take recommendations from others, not where safety is concerned.

RandallPinkFloyd · 07/02/2013 22:50

I'd recommend getting professional advice definitely but not from Which?. Not on this occasion.

They score all extended rear facing seats badly as they presume they are difficult to fit. They also seem to have a bias against extended RF seats in general, not sure if it's because they are just unfamiliar with them but I found their reviews totally unhelpful.

Best advice I got was from In Car Safety Centre . I had to buy online as there aren't any stockists anywhere near me but they spent over half an hour on the phone with me and had fantastic knowledge.

AuntPepita · 07/02/2013 22:59

Which don't have a clue with rf seats

TokenGirl1 · 10/02/2013 08:26

Thanks everyone, especially the tip about the towel or wedge. I'm surprised In Car Safety didn't mention it to me as I commented on the lack of recline. I will go back to them.

I think we might have to go for the two way Elite in the Punto. Dh isn't so sold on Rf especially in his car as it's a 3 door. Don't think he'll want to bother with sorting the tethers everytime he puts ds in the car which he'll have to do as he'll be moving the front seats to get our dc in the car. I definitely want ds in a 5 point harness especially if we do have ff.

I would be much happier having Rf but think I will be fighting a losing battle. There's still so much negative opinion about extended Rf in my family/social circle. When we had a knock in my car everyone thought I was mad when I said we needed to replace the car seats. One person even suggested that the advice to replace car seats after an accident was a police conspiracy to get more money for the car seat manufacturers!!!!
