Lightweight Group 2/3 car seat

Hi, I'm after a lightweight group 2/3 carseat - I only want to buy 1 so it needs to be easy to transfer between mine and my hubby's car. I was going to buy a Graco one but just saw that it offers no side impact protection and is on the which list of NOT to buy seats (seen on another thread here) so I would like a sturdy and safe, but not too expensive one.

My son is only 2 but he is too big for his other car seat as his legs are really long so I suppose I should be going for one thats suitable from 3 yrs as opposed to 4 yrs.

Have you looked at the kiddicare seat?

How much does your ds weigh. You really can't put a " year old in a seat with just a seat belt he would move around two much. this kiddy carseat is light and would work for that age. You keep using the impact cushion until he is 18kg. If he is nearly 18kg I would go for two way elite it goes forward or rearward until 25kg in a full harness.

Are you sure he is too big for his seat. Leg length has nothing to do with it. As long as the main part of you child's head is still within the seat he is still ok in it

Thanks, I'l have a look at the Kiddy one. He weighs just over 15kg so is definitely on the smaller scale for the next size up seat. I can't put our front seat any further forward and I'm worried that if I have to break suddenly or have an accident that his legs will get crushed as they just touch the front seat . His head is ok in the seat he's in at the mo though.

I would keep him in his current seat until he reaches 18kgs or his head goes over the back of the seat he is in.

Broken legs are better than head injuries or brain damage. Sorry to be blunt. Plus it's unlikely his legs would get broken from an emergency stop - maybe in a major accident, which again, you'd probably be glad to have him in the safest seat possible for his age (which is a group 1) :)

If you're wanting to change seats for his comfort then you could look at ones which don't sit as far forward on the seat? The Kiddy seat would be good for this and you can get ones which convert to a booster for when he's really too big for the seat which will be when he's 18kg :) The Britax Prince is also a small framed seat which is fairly cheap, but it's only up to 18kg rather than converting into a booster later.
