Is a booster cushion enough for a nearly 5 year old?

He's 112cm tall and 16kg, he's 5 in four weeks. We're looking to get an extra seat for our nanny to use in her car, so it's unlikely to be used for long journeys. Any recommendations you care to share?

TIA

My 5 year old uses a booster seat, but one where there's a clip so you can lower the seat belt so it doesn't rest on their neck. Think I got it from Halfords.

vodkaanddietirnbru · 15/08/2012 21:58

Is it going to be used regularly? I would get a cheap high backed booster instead. The Britax adventure is only around £30 in halfords at the moment

SecretNutellaMedallist · 15/08/2012 22:00

High back booster is by far a better option.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 15/08/2012 22:02

My dd is 7 and still in a high backed booster. If they fit the ranges I'd get the earliest stage you can iyswim

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 15/08/2012 22:04

I wouldn't tbh.

High back booster is better.

vodkaanddietirnbru · 15/08/2012 22:04

p.s. my nearly 9 year old still used a hbb

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 15/08/2012 22:10

vodka glad it's not just me. Dd will no doubt still be in at 9 as she's petite and weighs nothing very little

headfairy · 15/08/2012 22:12

Ok thanks.... Will check out the Britax Adventure.

High back booster offers side impact protection, keeps the shoulder portion of the seat belt away from the neck and gives submarining protection (when the child slides under the lap part of the belt), a booster cushion just places the child higher up so that the seat belt has a slightly better chance of protecting them than just a seat belt.

DD2 is similar in size/age to your DS and she is still harnessed in a TWE and will be until she out grows it or until her seat is needed by DD3 (in 12-18ms time) and then she will go into a HBB.

StateofConfusion · 27/08/2012 15:06

No.

My 5yo is still in a britax evolva 123+. Get a cheapy HBB at the very least. Sips is so so important.

cheesesarnie · 27/08/2012 15:08

my 6 yo is also in britax evolva 123. he uses a booster seat for nanny/grandads/aunties car.

mistlethrush · 27/08/2012 15:12

DS (7) is tall enough to officially not use a booster. However, he's in a HBB seat still. He accepts that he's in it because its safer for him - and that we have him in it when his friends are not in one because we want him to be safe.

CMOTDibbler · 27/08/2012 15:13

Def need a HBB until you can no longer squeeze them in it, then swap to just the cushion. No matter what they tell you about 'everyone else' not being in one
