When to remove the newborn insert?

I have a Britax Babysafe for my 11 week old DS. He's starting to look like he's reclining in it a little rather than sitting up in it, IYSWIM. He just doesn't look quite right somehow. I've moved the straps up to the middle holes, but is it time to remove the insert? He's 4.65kg and when sat in it his head doesn't reach the top of the insert yet. He does still seem secure in it. I know I kept the instructions but can't find them anywhere, and the shop we bought it in is an hour away so any advice appreciated!

Hi,

We had the maxi cosi cabriofix and removed the head hugger bit when my little boy was about 9 weeks old but he was on the 75th centile for height. I wasnt sure either but when i took it off he looked alot more comfy and then when we put it back on he seemed really squished in so we took it off!

Trust your mummy instincts!!

Thanks! I'll try him without and see how he looks.

On the Cabriofix there is a triangular wedge cushion attached to the head hugger. You take out the wedge first and the head hugger later. There aren't any hard and fast rules about when this should happen. Babies grow at different rates and some are skinny, others chunkier. Try the different variables and work out what is most secure for your baby.

Having looked at the website I think he's fine, he is actually supposed to be reclining in it ( had forgotten about this in my paranoia! ) He looks like the baby in the picture anyway! Will still try without though in case it's better.
