Children in the front

When is it safe for young children to sit in the front of a car? We have 2 stage 1 seats and his stage 2 seat-they do fit in the back but the seats all touch each other and push on each other a bit. (We are car shopping for a better solution!)
So is it safer to have a 4yr old in the front or the 3 seats pushed up against each other in the back?

All should be fine in the front with the front seat pushed as far back as possible because of the airbag. I would put the eldest child in the front

Ds is nearly 5, a big 5 he'd pass for 6/7 easily. He goes in his car seat in the front, seat pushed well back and properly strapped in. We only started doing this over the summer.

Dd has been in the front since.birth. Seatbelts too.short.for any of the infant seats and.no passanger airbag.

Thanks, I read that under 3's shouldn't be in the front with airbags so thought he would be o.k, but I can't push him all the way back because there's a stage 1 seat behind. Will see how far back he can go though.

yep seat pushed back as far it can go and turn the air bag off, tho there is conflicting advice on whether you should turn the airbag off!

if its a rearface seat ALWAYS turn it off, but for forward facing seat it seems seat pushed bag is a definite and i thought airbag should also be off, but some advice says leave it on. i have found contradictory advice on the airbag when i google!

my eldest is 12, no carseat now as tall enough etc, he goes in the front, ds2, ds3 an ds4 have all gone in the front on their forward facing high back boosters.

at the moment we have 3 across the middle seat, one in high back maxi cosi rodi? booster seat, one on a graco high back booster and in the middle we have dd in a maxi cosi toby? the one with a 5 point harness. they fit fine in our citreon c8 and then in the back row we have ds1 no carseat and ds2, 10yrs booster seat, he has just stopped having a high back booster as he no longer fits it comfortably but the booster seat makes the seatbelt fit properly :) hth
