Time to sound very stupid!!

Can a base for a cabrofix be fitted with a seat belt?

Yes, it can. Or if you prefer you can just strap the seat in.

Im guessing a base would be easy - have a 3door clio and limited space in back

Just don't get the family fix as at moment only fits forward facing for next size. When rearfacing is 5 times safer. See rearfacing.co.uk

Also shop around amazon were selling the base for £70 ( isofix and belted version) I got mothercare to price match it over phone and I got sent a £10 gift voucher.
