Seatfix - better than isofix?

I've just been at a car seat checking event and on discussing my options for a new seat for my soon to be 4 yr old DD I've been told that I should look for seatfix rather than isofix as the new thing. Apparently it allows the seat to move out the way on impact rather than holding it rigid. I had thought that i would get the Ferofix but they were suggesting Recarro, kiddy or concord as better makes with side impact testing as standard.

Does anyone know more about this. I can't find much info on the Internet.

All the ones you list are isofix. Could they mean this be safe seat it is still isofix but I don't like where the belt looks like it sits on the child it should be across the top of their legs. I wanted to check the ferofix but couldn't find it anywhere. I have seen one that has seatfix mothercare have just started selling it here I tried it in my car when kiddicare sold it. The bit attach to the isofix bits in your car put with a clip so would be very difficult to get in and out if you could get them in at all. Some cars have connectors that are along way back which would make it very difficult.
The besafe seat would not work if you had three across the back.

They said that isofix is sometimes used as a generic name and that there is now more than just the traditional isofix. I've found Recarro listed as seatfix but nothing else.

Have a look at the Which? Car seat reports. I'm pretty sure some of the Reccaro ones are listed on there as DON'T BUY.

They're feeding you a load of crap. Isofix is a seat of mounting brackets that are a standard size and shape and are in a standard position in every car. Seatfix is a Recaro brand name for their energy absorbing technology. Other seat companies will have different technologies with different names.

I think it was the energy absorbing technology they were on about. Does all isofix offer energy absorption?

The recarro doesn't make the best buy list but I sometimes wonder if the Which list is all its cracked up to be as they don't keep up with new developments that well.

Isofix is just a way of fixing the seat to the car. Nothing more and nothing less. All of the extra technology, like energy absorption, is specific to the make of seat. Each seat has different technology that does different things. A lot of it is just marketing nonsense and you need to look at test results to see which is best. IMHO the Which? tests aren't very good.

Look up your car on the Euro Ncap website. Chances are it will have been crash tested with a seat in it. Pretty shocking to see. I imagine the deceleration and throwing about in a crash will do a lot of damage to a childs body, I am not sure seat design will really make that much difference. The important thing with isofix or seat fix is that it is held properly to the car chasis. That means the seat belt will work well

Nocake, where should I look for test results other than which?. DD will be in this seat a long time and I want to get it right.

There are a number of organisations that test seats. They test for safety where Which? tests for convenience and ease of use. NCAP, ADAC and ICRT all crash test seats. You can also look for mentions of these tests on seat company websites. They all test to a level beyond the type approval tests (the minimum standard that a seat has to meet).
