Three kids in a car

Hi. I have two-and-a-half-year-old twins and a seven-month old baby. We don't currently have a car, but can borrow my mum's to ferry the kids about. But getting three in can be hard! Does anyone know of a people carrier/good-sized car where you can fit three child seats in one row, and therefore still have boot space? Baby is about to move up to Group 1. Currently have one Group 1 and one 1-2-3 seat. Should I get another 1-2-3 and put baby in the Group 1. Any chance these will all fit in one row?? Any advice welcome!!

Mazda Premacys are good for 3 across - we got 3 large rfing seats across the back and they are very cheap now (We got £150 in part exchange for ours ) but I expect one from a dealer/2nd hand car place would be more expensive. They are also really cheap to run.

And agree the 7m is far to young for ffing - it's 5 times safer to rf if you are 4 years old or under.

A Honda FRV has 3 full size seat across the back & three in the front too!

I've got a peugeot 307 estate (with an extra 2 seats in the boot) and can fit two toddler seats (group 1 seat I think) and a high back booster across the middle. I can also change out the high back booster and put a baby seat with a base in too. They fit comfortably and safely.

Before you more your baby look at this video.

Then consider a britax two elite rearfacing At 7 mths it far to early to turn them forward facing.

Car wise a MPV type like a scenic/Picasso have full seats but also have storage boxes. This means you can put a seat with a foot prop on them

we have a volvo v70 and can fit 3 across the back and it has the biggest boot i have ever seen!

please don't put a 7 month old forward facing

QueenLear · 09/05/2012 20:58

Thanks for all the car recommendations. Especially like the sound of a Volvo with an enormous boot. With three little ones, the amount of stuff we have to cart about is epic! Will start checking them out. Obviously not moving little on into forward-facing yet - don't even have a car, let alone a car seat!! Was merely wanting to find out what was the best type to buy for when I will be trying to fit them all in the same car. What age is recommended for the next size seat? I had heard nine months, but is this incorrect?

Only recommend then move when they have fully outgrown the infant carrier height (head crowning top of seat - legs dont matter) or weight.

Have a look at rearfacing.co.uk for lots of info

agree staying rear facing is much safer, and more comfortable according to my dds as well.

I have just managed to fit 3 seats across my honda CRV. it took some juggling, but we got there. I now have an infant carrier (dc3 due ina couple of months), a two way elite (for dd2, who is 5.4, and still rear facing) and a high backed booster for dd1 (who is 7).

once dd2 is too tall for the two way elite (which will happen before sh is too heavy), it is possible (we checked, since it was taking so much time to find 3 seats which fitted!) to fit another high backed booster where the infant carrier currently is - so would have dds 1 &2 in hbb, and the baby will go into the two way elite, for a good few years.

hi, stay away from the renaults!! i have had 3 seats in the back of a renault grand scenic, a vw golf and now a toyota corolla verso. have two hi-way 2 car seats and a britax two way elite atm. i can change one of them for a britax adventure hbb or a maxi cosi cabrio baby seat.

:)
