Due to the lack of having our own car we have so far avoided having to buy a car seat for DS (nearly 2). We are now considering getting a car so we finally need to buy a car seat. DS weighs just over 14 kg and is extremely long, as a baby he used to exceed or just sit on the top curve for height, and now he looks like a nearly 3 year old. So when we travelled in a car over Easter he looked like he had almost outgrown the group 1 seat. His legs were hanging off and his head had almost reached the top part of the seat.
So we are not too keen to buy a group 1 seat if it means we have to get another one within the next 12 months anyway. On the other hand he is still too small for the car seats from 18kg. Is there any seat for in between but that would last us for a number of years?

Thank you!

I would go for kiddy or a similar one with a impact cushion they are easy to move between cars and are very safe. the they fit like this Jane, concord and mamas @papas also do them but I think the kiddy is the lightest

Look for a seat that goes from 9kg up to 25kg. Our Britax Maxway does. You could also try the Britax Multitech.

i too would look at extended rear-facing seats, as they're so much safer than forward facing ones.

we have a besafe izi combi which is lovely, and very good safety test results, but may not last your tall boy very long!
an we also have a britax 2 way elite which i LOVE and which can be used harnessed up to 25kg, rear or forward facing.

Another recommendation for Kiddy here. Expensive but 9 kg - 12 years. Comfortable for my long-limbed children.

Britax two way rear facing. Rear facing is the way to go. My four year old still in hers and my tallish (although very very light) seven year year old only now needing a ff seat.
