Ds is 3 and tall. In 4yo clothes comfortably. We have a maxi cosi priori which his head is just starting to poke out the top - maybe an inch but not as much as his ears being out the top iyswim.
Dd is nearly 1 and needs a new car seat.

Am I right I thinking ds is ready for group 2 and dd can have his old one.
I really don't want to buy another group 1 seat and then a group 2 one in a short space of time.

When can they move to group 2?

TIA :)

What does DD weigh? Is she nearly at the weight limit of her seat and her head is out of the top?

silverfrog · 10/04/2012 14:17

what do thy both weigh?

car seats go by weight as much as height (obv if ears over the top then not suitable, but this doesn't mean next stage up necessarily - it depends on weight)

Whenisitmysleepytime · 10/04/2012 14:46

Not sure what either weigh- i don't own scales Blush
Dd is heavy for her age and her head is approaching top of seat.

Might have to put them on scales on boots...

Also, suitability to go in a HBB also depends on the child's ability to understand that they have to keep still in the seat and not fiddle with the seat belt or reach for toys of younger siblings! If they aren't yet at the point of being able to understand that if they mess about in their seat they could die/be severely injured then they aren't ready for a HBB and need to be harnessed for their own safety.

He's really good at safety stuff. :) often stopping tantrum ing do I can strap him in to 'keep him safe'

Dh has taken kids out of a shopping mission to find some scales/ weigh them.

Ds is 17kg and dd is 10kg.
Dd's seat is good till 13kg.
Ds is in a maxi cosi priori so will need to look up the limits for it I guess.

The seat your DS is in is likely to be suitable to 18kg and most HBBs suitable from 15kg. If, like a PP said, he is sensible to sit back and not mess with belt then I would go for it. But I would buy the best HBB that I could afford.
Also don't buy it thinking your DD will eventually use it. Not only are they safer in a HBB till 12 but we are likely to see booster cushions phased out in the coming years.

QED · 10/04/2012 19:00

Your DS would be ok weight wise in current seat until he is 18kg although he would also be all right to go up to the next stage of seat from 15kg.

SecretNutellaFix · 10/04/2012 19:01

DS has until he reaches 18kg and his ears are level with the top of the seat. DD has a good couple of months left where she is.Smile

Cheers all! :)
Think we might get ds the hbb then. He certainly seems big enough!
Will probably move dd then too as although she is fine for weight and height she has started rocking the seat by pushing with her legs. She is freakishly strong! Hmm
