is it safe to put a front facing group 1 car seat in the front seat of a car (peugot 205)? Doesn't seem right to me, but happy to have my mind set at rest!

It is not recommended. The safest position for any car seat is in the middle position of the back of the car and the next safest is the seat behind the passenger seat.

Thanks; as I suspected.

it isn't the safest place in the car, but it's not terrible tbh. as long as the seat is as far back as it can go and there is no airbag

clearly if you can fit it in the back then that's preferable though

thingamajig · 05/03/2012 21:28

I would disagree: not as safe as in the back, but not "not recommended". It is really rear facing seats that cannot be put in the front (esp with airbags). If you do put your car seat in the front, move the seat back as far as possible. Here is a link from RoSPA

Personally, I wouldn't do it all the time, but OK for a one off e.g. while carrying something large in the back

justforinfo · 06/03/2012 22:09

I wouldn't do it at all, you can still crash on a one off trip as I found out!

I do it all the time, I have 3dc and 4 proper seat belts so no option of using the middle of the back seat..There is no airbag and it is the best option (the older Dc like to help change gear,dc3 can't reach).
