Woo - we have a Max Way!

Got it today and it's fab. I know some people have been interested, so if anyone has any questions about it let me know and I'll see if I can answer them must retrieve the booklet from the boot. But in brief:

Much more compact than the others we tried in our car - there's a surprisingly large space in the middle seat between it and the cabrio on a base (the man fitting said that it would be very good for people who need 3 seats across the back).

Lovely and comfy, very nicely padded. And the side wings are much deeper than the multi tech, which, if nothing else, looks more reassuring.

Relative to the others, it looked not too bad to fit, but still had DH and I vowing we would never, ever move it :o

Does it have a leg prop? Could you fit it in the front seat if you needed to?

What else did you try, and why did you pick this one?

Oh, and we said we'd never move the Besafe, but it gets swapped into different cars twice a week! Once you've done it a couple of times it's surprisingly simple. You get efficient quickly!

Yes, it has a leg prop. It can go in the front seat if needed (according to the booklet), obviously usual stuff about no airbag and seat as far back as possible.

We also tried the Multi Tech and the Besafe Combi (isofix).

We went for it largely because it's so much more compact in the car. DC2 is due soon, and will need an RF seat before DS1 outgrows his, so we'll have to put at least two of them in the back, and if we have another DC we might need space for the cabrio as well. This one looked like it had the best chance of managing that. Also, if we ever need to cram someone else in the back there is room for an adult to sit between them (wouldn't fancy it for a long journey, though).

Also, in terms of coziness (perceived) DS looked more comfy in it than in the MT. The Besafe was comparable, but the weight range is lower RF.

It's the same price as the MT, so given that it's smaller and we thought it looked more comfortable there wasn't much contest. Obviously it's cheaper than the isofix Besafe, but for us it beat the belted Besafe due to size and weight range.

As for moving it - we'll be putting it off until we're desperate I think! Especially as securing car seats is my job, and I'm neurotic about it... :o

ImpyCelyn - Sounds like it is a great seat.

Would you be able to measure the seat from the back of the seat to the top harness slots (so bum to top harness slot)? I am looking at buying on of these to replace a Nordic Secura (very similar looking older Britax seat) and was wondering if it was comparable.

Also, can the seat recline while installed or do you have to chose the recline and then install?

I'll measure the seat this evening once DH gets home.

I think with the recline you set it before you install it, certainly the man who fitted it didn't mention being able to change it.

Thank you very much Imp - the recline function was one of my favourite things about the Nordic Secura - you could adjust on the road so if DD fell asleep you could recline it with out having to faff with re-installing it but equally if she woke up you could tip it up and she was upright.

I love that seat - I am so gutted it expires in Sept and Britax haven't made an equivalent seat to replace it (unless the Max Way does recline!)

I've been out and measured. If I slide the shoulder straps up to the highest then bum to top harness slot is 38cm. But the seat is really pad, so if I put a bit of weight on it (assuming someone's sitting in it) then it's 40cm. That's about the midpoint of the slots, they slope ever so slightly downwards.

Bum to top of the headrest in that position is 60cm. Do the shoulder straps have to come out level with the shoulders? Or can they come a bit from below? Because it says it's suitable to age 5/6 (ok, height dependent) and DS is a small 17months and the top setting is only 4 above his.

I'm still not sure about the recline. You could call the people that fitted mine though, even if you live nowhere near, they're very helpful over the phone (and it's freephone). They're Babycare on 0500 300 907.

Thanks Imp. Generally rfing is at or below and ffing is at or above though some manufacturers say differently. I have measured DD2 (not the child to go in the seat) and her seated torso height is 41cm but she is a very tall 4.3y - 110cm - and is the height of some of DD1's (who is 6y) Y1 classmates or taller.
