Rear Facing in a 3 Door Car?

DD is 9 mo and currently is in a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix with Isofix base. We were involved in a car accident recently and its made me extra vigilant about safety so I've started researching the next stage car seats. Is it impossible to use an ERF seat in a three door car? I don't think there is much chance of changing the car anytime soon. Are there FF seats that are considered safer if ERF is not suitable? Thanks!

In Sweden all children RF til 4 years, so it's definitely doable. One option used a lot there is to put the RF seat on the front passenger seat if there's no airbag or with the airbag deactivated.

It's certainly possible to fit them in the rear seats, it'll just make it a little harder strapping them in and out of the seat, but no worse than fitting an infant carrier with a safety belt really.

Are you near the Essex Road Safety people or the Milton Keytnes In Car Safety Centre? Both have a large range of seats and would be able to offer great advice. MK often help people over the phone too.

Thanks PestoPenguin. I hadn't thought about it like that, now it seems obvious that it is doable as clearly 3 door cars are available everywhere! I could make a trip to the Essex road safety team, it would be a bit of a journey but worthwhile if it means I can get an idea of which seats will definitely fit properly. Just got to start saving now-RF is so much more expensive!

hi, i've had my seats in loads of 3 door cars, polo, fiesta, clio, 207, ibiza, and they have fitted well in all. i have a britax two way elite and a hi-way 2.

Hi there, I have fitted a number of seats in 3 door cars and would agree with comments above that its just more tricky to get you LO in and out and needs to be done via the opposite side. You mention that the car has isofix so you could consider the Klippan Triofix which is the most compact car seat I have seen and is proving to take up less space than an infant carrier when installed !!
