Group 1 RF that DOESN'T need the seat in front?

DD1 (2.3) is in a BeSafe Izi Combi and very happy in it too! DD2 is only 7 months but 91st centiile and beginning to appear v uncomfortable in her cabriofix. I don't really want to turn DD1 FF yet, and I definitely want DD2 to be RF (she does weigh over 9kg). As we share our car and have different seat positions, clearly the BeSafe won't do for DD2. Are there any ERF seats that don't need to go right up to the seat in front?

As in a seat that doesn't take up as much space? The Britax Max-Way doesn't take up too much room

The road safety centre in Essex fitted our imported BeSafe IziKid in the middle with a gap.

I think the InCarSafety Centre used to do a Britax one that didn't need bracing.

Sorry Mrs I should have been clearer. OUr BeSafe works by having to be right up against the seat it is behind - part of it's safety is reliant on that. Therefore, if you drive cloise to the steering wheel and need to put a ERF behind the driver, the BeSafe wouldn't work. I didn't realise it was the only model that did that and thought that was the norm for ERF seats.

Thanks for all other suggestions. I spoke to MK yesterday and they suggested 2 new seats, the triofix & bimbo (both £££ though!).

The Britax multi tech should have a gap, and I've just double checked and the BeSafe should either be touching the front seat or needs a reasonable gap. The instructions say 25cm, but I'm pretty sure when ours was fitted it was mm, and as a guide your hand should fit between the back of the seats (but I could be confusing that with our Britax).

I sit very upright in the passenger seat in order to keep the couple of cm free that we were recommended by the fitter.

Bar that rings a bell - it had to be touching in our case, as the distance recommended was unachievable if you had a reall adult in the passenger seat. You may need to check what distance it should be stetson and you may be more comfortable and safe scooting your chair backwards so that the two meet? Might be worth ringing the InCar Safety cebtre - they are really happy to give advice.

fessa, it's also worth remembering that if your airbag can be disabled you could have one of the seats in the front?
it would mean adult passenger would always have to go in the back though

Oh. So not only was I overcharged for an X1 version, but they gave me the incorrect fitting instructions too? I'll fix that first thing in the morning.

TBF, it is only 2cm max that it will give me.

Might have to let Besafe know that one of their retailers needs retraining. Thanks ladies.

Hi, we have the britax hi-way 2. It shouldn't touch the seat in front, it should have a gap of at least 1 cm in the back seat. Not sure about in the front seat.
