Top tethers and parcel shelves!

Have just switched to an isofix seat and to my utter annoyance, the parcel shelf won't go back on because of the top tether being stretched out over the back seat top and across the boot, blocking the boot too.

Has anyone found a solution to this that doesn't involve a stanley knife and the shelf, or leaving off the tether (which means the seat's not safe) ?

It's a bog standard VW golf.

are you sure you are hooking tether on the right bit. usually just behind the seat or even on the seat may have a small picture of tether near it.Check the car hand book

It's labelled top tether!

What seat have you got?

Forward-facing 5-point harness, pretty standard job really. Isofix (obviously!). It's fastened in so tightly even without the tether I can't budge it. (I had to kneel on the seat to get it to clip in)

I guess I can't grumble too much - if the only problem is the shelf, and the seat's safe, then should I care?

I am only worried that if I brake sharply, the shelf will shoot forward and clip DS on the head when he's tall enough for it to poke above the seat back!!
