2 carseats installed using 3 pt seatbelt?

This may sound silly, but DH and I have been discussing TTC for DC2 next year and he is insistant that we will need to upgrade the car as, according to him, you cannot have 2 carseats installed in the back seat using the 3 point seatbelts (our car does not have ISOFIX).

Now I am fairly certain that this is incorrect, but I would like some reassurance. If anyone can point me to reasearch that confirms that it is okay that would be great. I have done some searching of my own, but I am yet to find anything definative.

I have two car seats in the back, both fitted with seatbelts.

Why not take him along to Mothercare / Halfords / somewhere that fits carseats and get him to talk to them?

plenty of people have 3 car seats, all securd by seatbelts...

if the seat belts can secure passengers, they can secure car seats - there may be other issues such as buckle crunch, or if trying to site the seats next to each other general fit etc.

when you say you have not found anythign definitive on this, do you mean you have found somethign which suggests that this is the case?

silverfrog - No, I mean that I have not found anything to say that you cannot fix multiple carseats in the rearseat using the 3 point seat belts.

I have no idea why or where he has got this bizzare idea from - I have seen plenty of cars with two (or indeed) three car seats installed using the seatbelts to anchor them.

I pointed out that ISOFIX is a relatively new development and not all cars have it (as I said we don't) and asked what does he think those families do, but he was sligtly insistant.

Jojay - yes when DC2 is slightly more of a realilty than a whatif I will get him to come along to get the carseats tested by a proper fitter - it's likely that we will need to get a new Stage 0+ seat anyway as I found the one that we had for DS to be impractical to move out of the car.

It doesn't say you can't install two seats if they aren't isofix or that fitting two seats is bad.

I've never heard of this at all, I wonder where her has got the idea from. I'm guessing he has heard something somewhere and mis-interpreted it. How on Earth does he think people with older cars and two or more children manage?

Is he hoping to pull the wool over your eyes as an excuse to buy a shiny new boy toy car ?
