Does anyone know if its possible to get a HBB with integrated harness for 18kgs+ or do they all use the normal seat belt for over this weight range?

DS is only 2.8yrs but weighs in at 18.6kgs and 110cm tall so we really need to move him into a HBB asap but he's still so young I feel reluctant to have him just with a seatbelt as he will typically fall asleep in the car after about 12mins LOL

Have a look at high back boosters that cover the group 1,2,stage as these are a bigger size than the typical 9months to 4 year size seat and have a 5 point harness that you remove when you choose too so could be later. We had recaro seat like this and the seat back is adjustable according toheight, i know britax do one called the britax evolva 1,2,3. Hope this helps!

I recently had just this problem - DD is 107 cms and 42lbs and still only two.

In the end we bought a HBB with an integral harness, which we do put on her, but then we strap the HBB in like you would do normally. That way i'm happy that she's strapped in securely but yet we aren't relying on just the harness to protect her in the event of an accident.

even the 123 seats only harness up to 18kgs and then should be used with the adult seatbelt. My ds moved to a hbb just before he was 3 as he got too heavy for the harness. I think there are special needs seats that harness to a heavier weight but they are expensive

Have you thought about getting a Britax Two Way Elite and using it forward facing? It can be rear or forward facing from 9-25kg and has a very high back. DD1 (5.1 y/o) was in it until very recently and is 113cm/19-20kg but still had approx 10cm to go before it would have been outgrown (we needed the seat for DD2). The seat is outgrown when the tips of the ears are level with the seat back.

It's a nice seat and really easy to install forward facing as it has an alternate threading path if you have shorter seat belts.

What deemented suggested is possible but isn't strictly recommended as ECE regs say that to release a child from a child car seat should only take one step. Not picking on you dee as it is a common solution to a younger child outgrowing a harnessed seat before being mature enough to cope with a booster (no wriggling, fiddling with the seay belt, etc).

With the seat belt over the child and harnessed as well it could take that bit longer in an accident to get them out of the car. Admittedly in an accident the ideal thing is to cut the seat belt and remove the whole child car seat with the child still in it in case they have hurt their neck so it is a case of weighing up what is best in your own situation. A safety belt cutter is a useful thing to keep in the car if you do you with the double belting route just in case.
