How do stage 1 seats work?

DD is currently in her stage 0 seat. We have 2 bases and can take the seat out of the car with DD in it and then move it to the other car. We are looking to get a RF seat for her to go up to. Do these still come with bases and we just switch the seat or do we need to have two seats or move one between cars? The Which reviews imply that they are really hard to fit, so would it be better to have two seats (they are expensive)? We have a focus and a mazda 6, any suggestions?

It might also depend if you can get one seat to fit both car and if you have off street parking or can park out side your house. We can't park out side the house so have two sets of seats now. It is easy to swap seats when you have one child and can do it when the child is sleeping but if you plan to have another child so you would need to buy two anyway you might as well buy two now and save time.

Another idea would be decide which car the child is going to travel in most of the time and the parent looking after the child drives that car.

Excellent, thanks for the advice. I think we will need one in each car as we will often have one of us dropping DD at nursery and the other picking her up.

do you mean stage 1 or group 1?
stage 1 covers the group 0 and group 0+ (which are infant carriers, up to about 13kg)
stage 2 is group 1, which is for babies around 9m to 4 yrs?

am assuming you mean stage 2/group 1 as you're looking to upgrade though! as LM says, they generally have to be fitted into the car rather than having a base, but if you chose an isofix one that would be fairly easy to install I guess.

that said, they'r emuch bigger and bulkier than an infant carrier so still not the easiest things to swap between cars, depends if you're in a hurry tho i suppose!

if you can afford it i would buy 2

Also if one is dropping her at nursery and the other is picking her up, do the nursery have room to store the seat?

we had the maxi cosi but not the isofix ones (not sure size, but from age 9 months-4yrs) - they are heavy but we swapped and changed them between our cars and grandparents cars all the time (without dc in) - they just strap in using the seat belt. They were about £130 each but we had 2 kids within 2 years and so got lots of wear out of them - plus we sold them for £50 each at the end which paid for the next size seats!

I have got a Kiddy Infinity pro and it's really quick and easy to fit or swap between cars. Was one of the reasons I chose it as a non-driver.
