What if my boy hates rearfacing car seat. And I've spent all that money? I'm in a dither with all the information I've read. I'd like to see one before I buy. I live in Stockport. Can anyone advise me? Thanks.

Agree that if he is till RFing then he will know no different. My LO loved going into his stage 1 RFing seat because it was higher up and more roomy for him then the infant carrier.

well, i turned ds2 rearfacing when he was 2. he'd been forward facing for a year prior to that and he was fine! he thought it was quite fun i think ad he could see more out of the back than he could from the front

tbh tho, even if he had hated it i wouldnt have changed it

DancingThroughLife · 31/03/2011 20:41

Prams and Cots Galore in Chester sell the Besafe Izi Combi - that's where we got ours from. I don't know where you'd try some of the other makes though.

As others have said, he's rearfacing already so you'd know by now if he hated it or not.

Thanks for your replies. My battery went down last night so I had to log off quickly before I had any response. Chester can be a nice day out !

Would you believe it I've just found a stockist of the Recaro Polaric newly opened here in Stockport! Near the gates of Stepping Hill for any local people. Guess where I'll be this weekend? 2 months I've been looking into this, going round in circles.

Has he ever been forward facing? My DD is totally happy in her extended RF seat but has never been FF so doesn't know there is another option!

fusspot66 · 31/03/2011 22:56

He's 10 months so the changeover is on the horizon. He looks ridiculous in our spare baby seat but reasonably roomy in the main one. Head not higher than the rim but touching the fabric hood! We have a great britax from DC1 he could be in if I hadn't read all the stuff on internal decapitation etc. I know it's silly but I think his 4 year old sister will be gloating at him as she travels a distance watching a DVD and he can't for safety sake. He'll know what he's missing there. Grandparents are 4 hours away.

A friend asked me the same question, but she was worried because her DD had always seemed to hate being in her stage 0 car seat and had been ok when they turned her round. tbh, in the car, for safety's sake, is the one and only time and place that I ever think "they are just going to have to get used to it".

As others have said, he won't know any difference. Could the DVD screen not be put on the rear headrest instead?

Rear facers get a much better view out of the side and back windows, anyway, much nicer than the back of mum and dad's heads!

am not anti-dvd players in cars necessarily, but my 3 regularly travel 6 hours to see their grandparents ad we don't use one, so i'd say if it becomes a problem then just take it away!

or like PP says... rig it on the opposite headrest?

it's going to be a while before he cares though surely?

Housewife101 · 01/04/2011 12:33

Fusspot Personally I would go for it, try to rig up the DVD to the rear headrest if you have one.
My DD is 9 mths and we will be moving her into an extended RF seat soon as she fills her infant seat now and is rapidly approaching the top of the seat too. I have to admit that, like Pookamoo, I feel it is so important that I'm in the 'they'll just have to get used to it' camp.

surelynotnormal · 02/04/2011 21:10

My DD has always rearfaced and watches DVDs with it rigged on the headrest - never occurred to me she might not be able to!

fusspot66 · 03/04/2011 13:28

It's the fear of the dvd screen turning into a missile if we have a shunt. I seem to be living up to the fusspot name, don't I!

fusspot i'm with you on that one actually. if there is any chance it could become detached in an accident then i wouldn't use it on a RF seat.

lenats31 · 03/04/2011 21:41

Some of them have been crash testet.

thisisyesterday · 04/04/2011 11:28

oooh have they? don't suppose you have details lenats??? Grin

pookamoo · 05/04/2011 14:40

that's a really good point! Don't know why I didn't think of that - I'm paranoid about putting load restraint over anything in the boot!

How do you insert Emoticons into messages? Normally this is very simple, but NOT on Mumsnet. I´m getting really frustrated with it as I have been looking for instructions, and NADA shows up. I have tried to highlight them, copy and insert. Still NADA. i have tried to click on them - NADA

Can you see the "thundercloud" Smiley here????

There are recommended stockists of the Scandinavian Rearfacing car seats from 'BeSafe' in Chester (Prams & Cots Galore), and Wigan (Winstanley's Pramworld). Both these retailers offer excellent advice, demonstrations and service. See www.besafe.eu ('UK/ Irleand' section, then 'Retailers' tab)
