My daughter is just over 15kg and tall for her age but only 2 and 8 months. She is starting to look far too big and uncomfortable in her Maxi Cosi Group 1 seat and I am really keen to move her up to the next stage seat (think it is Stage 2/3 fitted with a seatbelt rather than harness).

I have tried her in her brother's seat and to be honest she fits in really well, the seatbelt is not garroting her in the neck and the side impact bits are close fitting. She looks safer in that than she does in her current seat TBH. I know it is all supposed to be about weight so why am I feeling a bit funny about moving her up? Her older brother went in his when he was three so I wonder if that is why.....

Anyone else put their child in a Stage two seat at around the same age??

Leave her in the group 1 seat. she is fine in it until 18kg and far safer. I didn't move DS1 until he was over 4

or when the top of the seat is level with ther eyes.

SecretNutellaFix - I also read about the top of the carset being level with her eyes/temple and it is definitely level with her eyes. I forgot to mention that bit!

I had to move ds just under the age of 3 as he was 18kgs and too heavy for the harness. He was very good and never undid the belt when he wasnt supposed to.

if the eyes are level or over the top of the highest point of the seat(ie the back) then they have outgrown the seat. ypu say she's over 15kg which is the minimum weight limit for high back boosters so as long as you think she can be trusted not to undo the seat belt then you sholuld move her. I had to do that for my 5 yr old he was the same age and was too tall for his maxicosi stage 1. There were acouple of times when he tried to undo the seat belt or lent too far forward but i would warn him to stop and if he didnt i would pull over and say we werent going to go anywhere if he kept doing that as it wasn't safe. he got the hang of it pretty quick especially if we were going to the park or something!!

It's a real pain if you have a tall skinny child. DD is about 15kg but is now too tall for her old car seat - eyes level with top of hair seat and no room for her legs (it's a small car). We've moved her into the next size car seat even though she's only 3.9 years old and a little too light. I made sure I got a which recommended best buy, and she's wouldn't dream of messing about with the seat belt whilst driving.

Don't think she even knows where the seatbelt is so don't think she would tamper with it. I think I'll go for it as she will be three in July anyway and we have a long drive to Devon coming up. Thanks for all the help!
