Suggestions for a nearly 3 year old

I have a friend with a boy who's not yet 3 years old, and is in a high backed booster seat. He is average height and a little over average weight for his age (I'm not sure of the actual numbers), so I'm worried that he's in the wrong seat.

I did ask his mum about this, but apparently, he just will not go in a 5 point harness seat and will struggle and wriggle and unbuckle it. She says that this means he's actually safer in the high backed booster than in an age appropriate seat he will get out of.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do in this situation? I don't want to appear to criticize the mother, but I am a little worried for the boy. If I could make a positive suggestion to her, rather than just say it's the wrong seat (again), it might help!

Oh, it's hard isn't it. I had to give another mum a lift back from baby group and she was insistent that her DDs (15 months but small) maxi cosi cabrio (stage 0) should be fitted FF Hmm.

In the end I just said I wasn't happy to take responsibility for her DD traveling in an incorrectly fitted seat in my car and fitted it correctly for her, she wasn't impressed.

I've no idea what you can say or do in this situation TBH. Apart from laying the legal aspect on thick...

You can't fit them FF. She kind of put the seat belt over and round a bit so it wasn't even vaguely secure - on the middle seat too, even though I'd moved my DDs seat to the front so she could go behind the drivers seat with her mum rammed in between her and DSs seat.

Thanks for your advice!

After seeing another thread here, I'm wondering if it's worth mentioning the Kiddy car seat to her - the one with the impact cushion rather than the 5 point harness. Her DS might be more amenable to that, and it will at least be legal!

I do find it hard to bite my tongue when some people are so cavalier about child seats - I knew a mum who's DD "outgrew" her infant seat at 6 months and was put FF then. But it's hard when the seats claim up to 13kg but aren't always big enough (height wise or harness length) to cope with that. And other options can be expensive, not everyone has a lot of cash to spend on getting the best seat.

We have the Kiddy car seat. My DS (15 months) is a real wriggler but he seems to have accepted the seat without too many problems, and there is no way he can escape!

So many people I know moved from group 0 to 1 really early. My DS was sticking out of all sids of our rear facing seat when I finally admitted defeat and bought the kiddy!
