Rearfacing car seat - lanky PARENTS!

I'm off to get a rearfacing car seat at the weekend (going to Milton Keynes) but I wondered - DH and I are both really tall, and I know the rearfacing seats can mean less room in the passenger seat in front.

I think the Two Way Elite is the way to go (DS is 14mo, quite tall, and about 10kg) but I just wondered what others have found? It would be installed in a 5yr old Audi estate.

Also, can these sorts of seats be moved from car to car? It would be good to put in in DH's car occasionally but not the end of the world if not.

They can be moved but are a bit of a PITA to be honest. Ours is in a Ford Focus estate, which is a small estate and DH does find there's not a lot of leg room, so my advice would be to fit it behind the passenger seat rather than the driver, that way, the driver can always have plenty of leg room, and if the passenger gets fed up in the front, they can move into the back. DH has done this on some long motorway journeys, which does make me feel a bit like a chauffeur!

Try a couple of different ones and see what leg room you can get.

We've just bought a BeSafe Izi Combi, and it's behind the passenger seat for exactly the reason pookamoo says.

I'm not particularly height-endowed so I can tolerate the front seat for short journeys but for anything more than an hour and a half, I'll be sitting in the back - behind the lanky driver

We only have a Grande Punto though, so not a vast amount of space to start with!

I've got the 2 way elite behind the passenger seat, DH can fit in there comfortably, just. It wouldn't fit behind the driver's seat if DH was driving. We have quite a small car though (Alfa 147) so you should have a bit more space.

We had the TWE in the more upright position as DD1 was over 15kg when we got it behind DH (6'2"). He did have to move his seat forward an inch or so but not a foot!

Pookamoo - we also have a Ford Focus Estate and are thinking of getting the TWE but have been advised there won't be enough space in the passenger seat for OH who is 6'2".

How do you find the space?

DH is 6 foot 5 and we have the two way elite in our audi estate.

Our lanky 2.5 year old still fits in the seat fine.

DH even fits in the front of my Honda Jazz with the two way elite behind him, so don't worry!

Oh, and we find them easy to move - just buy an extra tether kit when you go to incarsafety, that's where we got ours too.
