My DN is transported in such a way and S-i-L assures me is legal so long as no airbags? (thought the airbag rule applied to rear facing?)

Can't seem to find a definitive answer on google so thought would ask the wise mumsnetters.

I have 8yr old like this in my car, but only because no space in back because of younger sisters.

MrsTayto · 12/09/2010 18:22

What age of child though?

Wallace · 12/09/2010 18:24

Is fine even with an airbag www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/index.htm

Thandeka · 12/09/2010 18:26

almost 3.

In stage 1 carseat.

I guess safety wise is not the safest option at all but looks like its legal. Just have to pray she is never in a crash.

I think it is legal but my dd (7) goes on and on and on at me because i will NOT allow her in the front, when loads of her friends do. she then goes on to tell me that several of them don't even use a booster seat any more. so i feel, in turn, over protective and judgy Hmm Grin.

knobbingnowt · 12/09/2010 18:27

yeah its fine as long as airbags are off and correct car seat is used if child age requires one,

Wallace and Knobbingnowt:

Help! I'm confused: you citecthe same link, but one of you says with airbag, and one without; and I can't find it mentioned on the page. Can someone give the definitive answer?

knobbingnowt · 12/09/2010 18:38

as far as i know you must turn airbags off as they can cause young kids harm x

knobbingnowt · 12/09/2010 18:39

PS the top of my link says its illegal to have airbag on for young kids

lal123 · 12/09/2010 18:49

where Knobbing? I can't see it??

lal123 · 12/09/2010 18:50

It's really confusing isn't it. There's a thread here. The bit that interested me was the injuries that airbags can cause to children.

I have ds who is nearly 5 in the front with the seat as far back as possible and with the air bag off. There is a good space between him and the front of the car, and more than there would be if he was sitting in the back. dp and I discussed it at length and decided it was the best place for us.

DontCallMeBaby · 12/09/2010 19:17

The links say it is ILLEGAL to have a rear-facing seat in a seat with an airbag, merely PREFERABLY not to have a forward-facing seat or booster in a seat with an airbag, and gives some mitigating actions if you do have a child (in a forward-facing seat) in a seat with an airbag.

Wallace · 12/09/2010 19:17

Not illegal to have child in front seat with airbag, but not advisable.

onimolap · 12/09/2010 19:20

Found it all properly now, thanks.
