Car seat less safe with base?

Hi, Wondered if I could get some advice? We've got the car seat which comes with the Mothercare Trenton pushchair, I was going to buy the base for the car seat so I didn't have to un-do the seatbelt every time I took the car seat out, will this compromise the safety of it? Surely the seatbelt would go all the way around the car seat without the base, but not with? (thus making it more likely to move on impact?)

Thanks for any opinions.

Thanks LoopyM. It's just a seatbelt which secures it. Do you know if there are any disadvatages of an Isofix? It strikes me that they would be much safer? Think I need to do some more research on this, going to be spending time in the car after baby's born.

Loopy is spot on

in Which trials, wehn seats are tested with and without bases they are overwhelmingly safer when used with the base, esp if Isofix

no disadvantages to isofix afaik except you can only use it in cars with isofix points

so in (eg) granny's car you'd have to use the seat without the base
