Recaro Young Sport Car Seat- anyone got one?

details here

My DS is nearly 3 and is 17kg already. Hes tall and starting to outgrown his normal car seat. One more growth spurt and he will either be over 18kg limit for harness or his eyes were be over back of seat.

I am looking for a really good Stage 2/3 and am considering the recaro one as its a 1/2/3 and means I can keep him in the harness til he is 18kg. I dont trust him not to undo seat belt or actually listen to me!

Does anyone have experience of fitting this seat as there are no local stockists.

Any suggestions for a well built second stage seat. We currently have this one but I just think its a bit filmsy. DP says its fine though especially as its only used for very short journeys.

Thanks guys.

Hi hun,

I'm a gold trained seat fitter and I find the Recaro a easy seat to fit, and quite solid, the only thing you have to be aware off is that if your anchorage point is long it may suffer from what we call buckle crunch.

SuzieQ how please am I to see you. We have an 02 plate renault scenic. Our anchorage point are flush to the seat but our belts start from quite a way back behind the seats.

Can you remind me...buckle crunch- is that where the belts end up high on the car seat and the buckle secures it which makes it dangerous in a accident as on impact it would release itself? Had that with an old car and short belts....finding a seat was nightmare. Hence why Im uber cautious now.

If your DS is tall and heavy at nearly 3 I'd get a Britax Two Way Elite as you can have him harnessed to 25kg in that. A 2 year old is no way responsible enough for their own safety to be in a seat belted booster (and he would have to be once he's over 18kg in the Recaro you linked to).

In a booster you have to trust them to stay still/not lean forward to pick up a toy/poke their sibling/stand up/etc/etc and not many 2 year olds I knopw can sit still (mine certainly can't Grin). The seat will only protect them in an accident IF they are sitting within the confines of the seat with the belt correctly over their body.

RE. Buckle Crunch if you have fabric seat belt stalks (the female bit you clip into) you can give them a twist before clipping in the male end of the seat belt. This shortens the stalk and can mean a car seat can be installed where previously it was impossible.

Thanks I have just ordered a Recaro after seeing them today in store. It was a fantastic fit in my car...very secure and very good side protection.

There is no where that I can get a two way elite - I really wish I could have but I also have to be praticial. Its a shame britax are so short sighted with the whole rear facing market in Britain.
