tall 3 year old - is it safe to move her into a group 2 car seat?

She's had a massive growth spurt over the summer and I've noticed that the top of her head is now slightly higher than the back of her group 1 car seat.

She is only just 3, and she only weighs about 2 stone which is 28 pounds, so not quite heavy enough for Group 2 according to this website here But does this matter? also I'm weighing her on home scales so not sure if this is all that accurate for little ones!

IS it best to keep her is her old one for now, or do I need to get a group 2 one?

I've heard that it's when their eyes are higher than the back of the seat, it's time to change, so if her head is only slightly higher, I'd leave her as she is for now.

Yes its eye level / ear level / back of head level rather than the top of the head.

Another thing is the straps - do they still come down over her shoulders or do they have to go up and over (does that make any sense?). If they have to go up first then she is too big for them.

Weight is important though - she needs to be at least 15kg (and preferably 18kg I think) to activate the seat belt properly.

One option is to get the combined car seat which is basically a high backed booster with the straps still (but obviously more cost).

DS went into his high backed booster at about 3.2 but he was tall and 18kg.

Ah I didn't know about the eye level rule, thanks.

I know what you mean about a long back - DD is just the same :)

It's just the top of her head that sticks over the top and the straps and everything else still fit her, so she'll be ok for now.

DS2 has this he has been in it for about 4 or 5 months. he is going to be 3 next month and is very comfy in it.

The eye level thing is right except with the maxi cosy tobi when it is as soon as there shoulders go over the top of the slots at the back. I had the same problem so had to buy another stage one car seat. one shop tried to tell me I would end up only be able to use it for a few mouth as she would put up weight quickly but they don't at that age and tummy buys mean they lose weight. She was 4 when I did move her. The two I found with the highest back were britax duo and the evolva 123 I didn't look at the king or the safe fit as they were really pricey. I would now look at the two way elite as it has a higher weight. When they are young when they use the boosters they don't always sit still

if she is under 15kgs i def wouldnt move her,
we had this problem with our dd, at 18m her head was well over every seat we tried in our local shops,we bought her a britax evolva 1-2-3 ultra,it was a fab seat, the harness goes up really high too,so great for a tall lightweight as my 6yo still fit in it!
