Car seats

Two way elite and Kiddy questions

DS2 is 17 months and still in his baby seat. He'll be OK in it for another month or so but I need to decide what comes next. I am dithering between a TWE or a Kiddy.

I know a RF seat is safer and I assumed that's what I'd get but he has recently started to really hate his current seat. I think part of the problem is that he has a 5 yo big brother and naturally, he wants to be just like him and face the front. Last week he cried and screamed for an hour on the M4 and it's stressful and distracting when I'm driving. The other thing bothering me is that we have a Punto which is a small car and a lady at the A3 Baby Barn (who sells I think the Izi, not the TWE) said that we'd have to push the front passenger seat right forward which is not really practical.

Does anyone else have a TWE in a teeny car? Also is there anywhere in South West London, Surrey, or even East Sussex, that stocks the TWE so I could see and try it?

hi, i would say it is more that he can't see out rather than not ff iykwim. ds loved it when he got in his twe as he could see all round him and could people watch when we were sitting in traffic! plus he'll be facing his bb too.

the only place that sells the twe in the uk is the in car safety centre, in belfast or milton keynes. the road safety officers in essex may have a seat you can try?

i have had the twe in a polo/clio-think that's the smallest and have still used the front seat.

Yes, you may be right there.

DS1 is in the front (gets very car sick). The airbag is obviously disabled but it's still recommended that the seat's pushed back as far as possible, so that's my concern.

it really does depend on the car. i have more space in the polo front seat than the golf! could you put your ds1 in the middle rear seat? then he could still see out? the besafe is massive though, i wanted it but had to get the kiss instead as i would have been too far forward driving.

No the middle seat in the Punto is not full size and only has a lap belt.

Don't suppose there are any Mumsnetters in my neck of the woods with a TWE they could show me...

ask on the rf website and there should be someone. you can phone the essex road safety officers-cathy or vicky. they are really helpful over the phone or by email. i've done this before.

I'm in West Sussex (near Gatwick Airport) if that would be close enough to you?

I've got a TWE & a Britax Nordic Secura. They are in DH's car so it would have to be in evening or at weekend if you wanted to have a look/try out.

TheHouseofMirth · 05/08/2010 20:25

Thank you, that's kind. You're not far but I'm thinking I should just bite the bullet and go off to Milton Keynes anyway. I've already emailed them and they recommended the TWE for our car but presumably you have to go and buy them in person?

no you can order online and they will deliver. not sure how good or bad delivery is as we live close enough to go to the shop.
