I have been diagnosed with grade 1 Non specific type breast cancer today with dcis in situ. Lymph nodes clear from ultrasound.

I am massively worried. has anyone had any experience of this?

I mentioned it to nurse and she said it’s a good idea.
I won’t be able to settle until 18th. Cos I’m preparing for bad news again.

@Peridot1i an absolutely beside myself now 😭 I’ve just read a girl at 24 had stage 3 breast cancer and it metastases in to lungs and liver now she’s terminal!!!

Sorry to hear you are struggling.

I got some zopiclone in early days and it does help. My gp is reluctant to give it usually so I took advantage of the situation to get a few more when I ran out . Lifelong insomnia for me.

Sorry don't know why I quoted that post from ages back.

I’ve had such a beautiful day with my bestie today afternoon tea Xmas shopping. But I feel so guilty now that I’ve been feeling happy and Christmasy. Like I don’t deserve to be when this is hanging over my head?

Ikeameatballlunch · 09/12/2025 19:16

Yes you’re going to be grand!

@LoudSnoringDoghow are you doing?

OP posts:
LoudSnoringDog · 10/12/2025 08:34

Morning. I’m still a bit uncomfortable. I started experiencing some horrible nerve pain three nights ago. My GP prescribed me some amitriptyline yesterday so I took that last night and slept really well. I had a letter yesterday to see my consultant in 5 weeks for my post op results. I’m hoping that not much has changed since my original pre op diagnosis. I know that they took one lymph node.
I have pain but it’s not unbearable. I have managed to do my own dressings etc.
just waiting now I suppose to start next part of treatment

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 10/12/2025 09:07

@LoudSnoringDogbless you that sounds tough. Least the new tablets helped you sleep better.
I really hope the news is the best news in 5 weeks. It’s unbearable the wait.

OP posts:
ohdoriswheresthesalad · 10/12/2025 17:30

I had to call up MacMillan again today. The thoughts are so overwhelming. The GP has given me some sleeping pills and some propanol too.

OP posts:
Ikeameatballlunch · 10/12/2025 19:34

Ah I’m sorry to hear that. Did the phone call help?

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 10/12/2025 21:23

@Ikeameatballlunchyeah it did ever so much.
we chatted about some triggers and when I feel it’s getting too much thought wise and why we think it happens. She’s given me some excellent advice so I’m trying those out when things feel rough.
the sleeping meds are there for emergencies and after the procedure if I need them and the propanol use before a stressful situation.
she thinks that my mindset and thoughts will change after the pre op.

Ikeameatballlunch · 11/12/2025 06:39

Thats great, I’m so glad it helped. and they’re there for you when you need it

that’s basically CBT / therapy. I wonder if the breast care team can give you some advice on finding out where might be the best place to at least find out about some counselling, so you have the choice? It’s sometimes easier to have the same person so you don’t have to repeat everything! And they can set targets and review them.

Ikeameatballlunch · 11/12/2025 07:14

an app (I’m about to unsubscribe from!) just told me:

Health is a state of the body; wellness is a state of mind

it made me think of you op; your body is being taken care of by the awesomeness of the health system. Your wellness may need a bit of support

which is why shopping trips and having a laugh is absolutely vital right now ❤️

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 11/12/2025 08:54

She told me as well my thoughts are turning this into something much worse than I’ve been told and right now I need to control them the best I can because if not I won’t be well enough for an anaesthetic and I won’t be able to have the procedure done
no @Ikeameatballlunch you’re right. It’s a state of mind and my mind is in a state at the minute and I need to sort it out.
having my hair cut and coloured today and my 2 friends are coming round this evening for food and wrapping client gifts for work. So hopefully a nice normal day.
@LoudSnoringDog how are you feeling?

thank you @Ikeameatballlunchyou really are kind xx

@ohdoriswheresthesaladim good today. One week exactly after my op. My DS2 is taking me out for breakfast this morning. I think that the amitriptyline really helped me get a restful sleep last night so I feel fine today.
Your chat with MacMillan sounds really helpful, make good use of them

Oh I am glad you are feeling ok.
how would you say the pain has been other than the nerve?
when can you drive again?
I’ve made myself worse this morning by asking ChatGPT a question and it’s come back about the other breast; mri might find something there so could be double mastectomy!

I had just logged on to see how you are getting on! I’m still sore but expected pain. My mood is a bit low, I’m keeping an eye on that. Emotions are all over the place. I was made aware of the death of a friend earlier today, same age as me and sounds like she had a heart attack. I’m trying to process it. Such a shock.

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 12/12/2025 17:55

@LoudSnoringDog bless you I’m so sorry to hear about your friend, that’s so very sad.
take care of your yourself, no wonder your emotions are all haywire.
I’m ok had a busy day in London today with family so it’s taken my mind off it today again.
but slow weekend planned with wrapping and getting organised for Christmas so I’m sure I’ll be spiralling somewhere along the way before back to work Monday.

OP posts:
ohdoriswheresthesalad · 12/12/2025 20:32

Does anyone know if this is even possible -

when I go into the appointment for pre op Thursday is it likely they’re gonna tell me that on Monday (3days notice) that I need a mastectomy?
it’s been planned for lumpectomy, booked in for 22/12. I’ve made arrangements, sorted work, shopping all that jazz, Xmas plans etc.

surely to lucifer they would not book me a slot in theatre to have the plans changed 3 days before plus I will need to get my head round it, surely to Jesus they won’t give me 3 days notice?

ChatGPT says that’s not at all likely as

longer surgery
need a different surgeon
different theatre time
involves reconstruction options
often a longer hospital stay
different consent paperwork
different planning
needs a whole new MDT discussion

OP posts:
ohdoriswheresthesalad · 12/12/2025 20:59

Can anyone help, I’m really having a panic now that everything Thursday is going to be canceled after all the sorting out planning and everything I’ve done when she specifically said lumpectomy booked for 22/12?

she did mention mastectomy and chemo but I’m sure that was said as a worse case scenario?
