Likely breast cancer after ultrasound - thread 2

1000 replies

spartanrunnergirl · 09/04/2025 21:46

Welcome. The original thread (linked here ) was started after I had a mammogram recall and was told at the ultrasound that it was likely I had breast cancer - before biopsies were taken, and before I was ready to hear that (if you are ever ready to hear that).

I drove home gulping down tears with no idea what to do and no idea how to get through the days until my biopsy results. So I opened Mumsnet and made the original post, hoping someone might read it, and they did! One full thread later we are still sharing support, experiences, and advice. We’ve celebrated breast cancer wins and thrown virtual hugs around those who’ve needed it. (We’ve all needed it 💗)

For anyone opening this thread because they’ve found themselves in the same situation I was in … this is a hugely kind and caring bit of Mumsnet - where we’ve all felt that awful fear waiting for scans, tests, results, or with an early and uncertain diagnosis.

You are not alone.

This is the awful club - full of awesome women💗

Tomorrow morning. It's weird but I'm less scared about that than today's procedures.

I'm going for my herceptin injection today, plus my first Zometa infusion. My oncologist advised me to take paracetamol and a clarityn once I'm home, to help with side effects (flu-like feeling, and bone pain). At least it's only every six months ... !

I had zero side effects from Herceptin. The only thing I found unpleasant was the length of the injection and the feeling of the liquid. I had no other issues. Hope it goes well for you!

This is my ninth herceptin injection, I think. Although I started with Phesgo, post surgery and histology I was able to 'down grade' to just herceptin. I have zero issues with it or the injection, as needles just don't bother me. Zometa, on the other hand, is an unknown at this point, but my oncologist did say bone pain is to be expected. We shall see ...

SunnyValemin · 25/04/2025 14:04

@BatshitCrazyWoman I had bad flu like symptoms after my first Zometa, but my oncologist said it was 50/50 whether I'd be poorly. Hopefully you are in the other 50% to me! X

So sorry, I misunderstood you (and read too quickly!). I thought you meant your first Herceptin. I don’t know anything about the oth r drug but I hope it doesn’t present any problems 💐

I hope.so, too! How long did that last for you?

I had 2 days where I felt quite poorly and then a few more days of just not right, mostly I'd lost my appetite (which was quite disappointing as it was over Christmas!) I'm due my next one soon in 6 weeks I think, and my oncologist has said normally the first is the worst and the ones after are tolerated much better xx

BatshitCrazyWoman · 25/04/2025 15:26

Thanks @SunnyValemin I'm supposed to be at a 'do' tomorrow 🫤

SunnyValemin · 25/04/2025 16:36

I have everything crossed for you @BatshitCrazyWoman x

I’m off for my five year mammo on Monday. I know this is a milestone although I will have annual mammo’s for the next five years too. Please send positive vibes 🤞. At my breast clinic they say if you don’t get a call within 3 days or so then it’s probably fine. It makes the week after incredibly stressful and I get a jump scare if my phone rings. Last year it took me 6 weeks to get results. I can’t do that again. It was horribly stressful. I’m thinking I’ll text the BCN on Wednesday and see if anybody has read the scan. Urgh, it’s the gift that keeps on giving isn’t it? I’ve no reason to think anything is amiss but you can’t help but feel some dread! Anyway, onwards, I hope everybody is doing OK and I wish you all a lovely weekend ❤️

PemberleynotWemberley · 25/04/2025 22:56

@TheFormidableMrsC that's a huge milestone- the sense you get that the health teams aren't that worried about you any more after five years clear. At the same time it can feel a bit like being cast adrift- I remember panicking a little because my own fears meant I wanted to be under medical scrutiny.
Anyway, sending the most positive vibes in the world for lovely clean, clear and rapid results.
