I went to the doctors about a month ago with some small lumps in my boob. Like bits of gravel and one bigger one that isn't gravel like.

Anyway... my sister works at a doctors and she's spoken to GPs and convinced me that I am wasting the breast clinics time because there's going to be nothing wrong with me and it's a cyst/fibroadenoma.

My appointment has already been cancelled twice due to staff shortage, I was meant to go last Tuesday, then they changed it to last Friday and now it's this week. I'm thinking could it because the universe telling me 'don't go'?...

I'm 49.

Please attend your appointment.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer from a mammogram.
I had been to my GP who thought it was cysts but sent
me to the breast care unit to confirm.
I saw a consultant in the outpatients dept first he thought it was
cysts. Yes it was cysts in my right boob.
But in my left boob was a cancerous tumor. I couldn't feel
any lumps. GP and consultant couldn't feel a lump it was
so tiny that only a mammogram picked it up.

Good luck and let's hope it's a cyst.
Your sister is so wrong discussing it with the GPS she works for
and I don't believe they would tell her to tell you not to go.

Your sister is a moron who should not be working in healthcare. Is she always this stupid? Get checked, if it is nothing then great. I would not be alive if someone wasn’t skilled at their job.

ViscountessBridgerton · 26/02/2025 09:26

Yes you should absolutely go!!

Nailed it

By 'works at a doctors' do you mean she has a medical role or an administration one?!

Not that it matters because you should 100% go.

So - your GP has referred you to the breast clinic based on a consult with you.

But yet various GPs your sister works with can say with certainty it's nothing to worry about based on your sister discussing your confidential medical information with the,?

Yep - you go. You also don't discuss anything personal with your sister again.

I can promise you that the GPs in her sisters surgery definitely did not say that.

CuteEasterBunny · 26/02/2025 14:14

You are never wasting their time. They would always rather you have lumps checked.

I’ve had a few over the years and they’ve always said they were glad I had it checked and I’d done the right thing.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 26/02/2025 14:15

I assume she’s a receptionist as they all seem to think they know more than the bloody doctors.
I know a medical secretary who goes around diagnosing people because she thinks she knows more than the consultant she works for.
Ignore your sister. I hope for your sake it is nothing, but it takes somebody qualified to tell you that (the GP who actually examined you and the breast clinic etc, not some GPs who had a chat with your sister in the break room!!)

FloofyKat · 26/02/2025 14:17

I can’t believe your sister - who works in healthcare - said such a ridiculous thing! There’s no way the GPs in her practice would have said this either, they would not offer medical opinions on someone they’d never met or examined!

ignore her witterings and go to your appointment. It’s important!

Meadowfinch · 26/02/2025 14:18

Definitely go. Please.

Does your sister have 7 years training as a doctor? Does she have a speciality in breast health or oncology? Has she carried out a detailed examination and checked your mammograms?

No? Then she literally doesn't have a clue what she is talking about.

cheseandme · 26/02/2025 14:18

Fucking hell!!!!What gave I just read!!

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 26/02/2025 14:20

Not breast cancer but have terminal cancer aged 52. Please do not listen to your dister or the universe!

Enigma52 · 26/02/2025 20:36

Mother of god!! I can't believe what I'm reading here OP!

You definitely SHOULD go to your appointment. Not all lumps are benign unfortunately. I won't quote stats as I was 38 when diagnosed with breast cancer. Tell your sister to keep out of your medical affairs ( and don't share any info) Come on, you are 49 years old!

Enigma52 · 26/02/2025 20:37

Stillme2025 · 26/02/2025 05:19

On what planet do breast lumps not need checking out?? She is not on your side.

Exactly! Unbelievable isn't it?

WatchingTheClowns · 26/02/2025 20:38

Never mind what you've heard via your sister about a doctor who hasn't seen you! Go! Get checked up and find out properly. Good luck.

titchy · 26/02/2025 20:42

Your sister has NOT been told by a GP she works with that you shouldn't bother getting it checked because no GP in their right mind would tell anyone that without first examining them.

So - your sister is a fucking stupid moron and decided she knows better than your own GP who has seen you. She must hate you.

Go. The universe isn't trying to tell you anything. You've had your appointment rearranged that's all. Go.

NCDailyGame · 27/02/2025 21:58

@titchy

Funny you should say that, she doesn't like me.
