Biopsy results - still waiting

I had a biopsy done of a mass found in my parotid gland (salivary gland).

It was done under private on 1 Feb and consultant said 1-2 weeks for result.

Saw surgeon last week and he said results should be back by end of last week - but they aren't.

It's now almost two weeks and still nothing.

Is no news good news? Or is longer wait an indication they've found something bad and are doing more tests? I read that if they identify malignant cells it can take longer as the conclusion needs to be reviewed - is that true?

I was told likely hood is 70% it's benign but I'm so anxious and totally freaked out.

Any advice re biopsy turn around times or what to expect?

Histology in the nhs can take at least 2 weeks even for possible cancers now. In the private sector it can be at least as long (or occasionally longer) as they generally have to send the samples away to other providers to do the work on it. Taking longer doesn't mean much one way or another
