Haven are charging £49 for one night stay in a motorhome with no awning during the summer hols. They should be ashamed of themselves. We have just converted a transit van for going away in over the summer as we thought it would be cheap, i hope we havent made a huge mistake

Haven isn't camping. Did you mean to post in this topic?

you should try some of the smaller non commercial sites but you'll probably find you'll still pay at least £20 a night in the summer holidays.
What area are you looking at?

mrshess · 08/07/2010 19:47

north east or lake district area.
Can anyone tell me is the reviews for campsites on mumsnet under camping or under another topic i cant find it?

Haven may do camping but Haven isn't camping.

Smaller, non-comercial sites will be cheaper. I have a camper van and am paying between £10 and £20 a night for 2 of us High season depending where we go.

£20 a night inc EHU.

Or join the caravan and camping club, I've just joined and paid £3 a night the other week on a little CL site.

LOL borderslass, you have just brought back many teenage memories of sneaking off and getting drunk when I went to waren mill.
Tis a lovely site though!

We went up to Waren Mill in October half term - the camping field is set to one side and is quite sheltered - we had amazing weather too.
I love that area of Northumberland - you get fantastic views across to Holy Island from the site across the bay.
Would definately recommend it - they do 'pods' there too.

borderslass · 08/07/2010 21:12

were only an hour away from bamburgh but still love it there.

Caravan and camping club is £36 a year. I've got a 25 year old VW van and never had a problem getting onto sites with it. I have heard that some of the sites in the New Forest won't let you on unless your van is a proper camper van with windows. Thats only word of mouth that I heard that though (it was a CCC site but run by the forestry commission).
