Mallets

I know, it's quite mundane, but I bought a mallet last year from Millets, and the head flew off first time out. So I took it back, got a replacement.

First trip out with the new one, same thing happened!

So, I got by last year by only taking 7 or 8 strikes, then whacking it on the ground to push the head back on, then another 7 or 8 strikes, and so on. Anyone got any hot mallet tips for a good one to get before I go to Larmer Tree festival next week?

Have just phoned dh for you. he said all mallets are the same. doesn't matter whether you buy from co-op of fortnum mason !!
what you do it glue it. score the wood, make sure there are lots of groves. then buy glue. like 'evastick'. dh says he has glued all his mallets - he used to re build morris minor cars and repair AC cobra's and has done lots of banging and woodwork and fencing and building etc over the years. and he says this is the only thing that helps. HTH.

at mallet tip, i have had the same too, top flying off, it's really dangerous!

will glue mine, shouldn't have to though should you?!

and i can guarantee this as brilliant. I have banged our awning in many times, and dh'd mallet has never flown on, and stubbed someone on the toe .

Ooooooooooooooooh mallet help

Get this one Forge Steel is brilliant, head will not fly off, due to extra stick bit.

All mallets are not the same, some mallets are special

Oblomov · 07/07/2010 10:29

dh has 5 differnt mallets. rubbery, steel ended one, solid wood one. but that eventually split after years of hard graft. but am happy to be stood corrected. is that one is 'special'

weve got a rubber one had it for over 10 years only cost a couple of quid off a market also use a hammer for hard standing pegs
