Off camping to St Ives for fortnight and don't think will be able to last the two weeks sleeping on cheapo airbed-want one that won't slowly deflate and is comfortable-does this exist??Thanks

You need a fat airic. They are wonderful

Look here seems they have changed the range a bit.

oooooh so v excited - also going to st ives (but in a flat this year) - planning to camp or caravan next year.

Have a fab time - If you're there for the culdrose air day it's worth the trip.

We have a thermarest-type self-inflating mat thing. Couldn't sleep on it for more than a night or two, as too thin. We now use it under a regular airbed, which is pretty good. Keeps us warm, and protects us from feeling the ground through the airbed if it does deflate a bit.

Slubberdegullion · 05/07/2010 12:21

yes, thermarests are worth it.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/07/2010 12:59

We have Coleman Comfort airbeds and I love them.

They are separate chambers so you each have your own 'half' and don't feel it if the other person turns over, I only have to top ours up probably once or twice in a weeks camping, they are super comfy, but need something feflective to go under them (imo) to keep you warm.

Shodan · 05/07/2010 13:25

I've bought this one as an alternative to the Thermarest. Is cheaper, I think.

Shodan · 05/07/2010 13:26

Gah.

As an alternative to the fat airic.

V comfy- and I'm extremely fussy about beds.

ArcticRoll · 05/07/2010 13:48

Thanks for all your replies-think I will go with Wherethewildthingswere recommendation as like the sound of the separate halves and also less £££ than Thermarest. Will report back in August with review!

If you want to try a very cheap version of a Thermarest can I recommend going to Costco and buying one of these - sorry Costco don't have a website with it on.

They are fabulous and only £17 if you get them from Costco.

I'm afraid i suffer from Princess and the Pea syndrome and I have never had a comfortable night camping until now!! They are warm and very comfy and a good option to try at that price.

nannyl · 05/07/2010 19:58

i have a random brand one from aldi... cost about £15 and fab.... just as comfy as friends branded ones

Thromdimbulator · 05/07/2010 20:19

I would have agreed with you, until we bought one of these: Aerobed. Fleecy fitted underblanket on top and insulated blanket underneath, and lovely lie-ins while DH gets the bacon frying.

nuttysquirrel · 05/07/2010 22:01

Thermarest has been designed to be v comfy for a lightweight sleeping mat for backpacking/mountaineering...when you need to carry everything in with you. It is indeed V comfy for what it is BUT I think that if you are going car based camping you would be better spending less money on a thicker/heavier mattress...

ChateauRouge · 06/07/2010 00:17

are fat airics more comfy than thermarests?
I need a new mat, but now I'm getting on, I feel comfort is important [gimmer]

ArcticRoll · 06/07/2010 13:18

Yes nuttysquirrel I think Thermarest is not for me as am definatley not a minimalist camper-we take duvets not sleeping bags!

One of the things I do is to buy Lidls fleecy /imatation ,possibly wool white car seat things that they sell sometimes .
You can sit on them on drive down .and then place under central part of body ( it's the hips that kill me ) under or over your normal self inflating mat .
Sorry description of Lidls car seat thing not better!
