Anyone else think it's cruel ??

I am not being funny but during my seach for a 4 man tent I have seen many package deals for tents and stuff, was looking in the tesco book and argos and noticed that alot of the tents only have a 1500 HH. I have always been told that anything less than 2000 is not likely to withstand british weather. I feel sorry for people on a small budget who are led to beleive that this equipment is going to keep them dry and warm, when it probably won't. One night or morning of persistant rain and they are going to be soaked. We saw a family at Christchurch, Forest of Dean last summer who had been sold a package where the double airbeds were too big for the pods and were bulging out of they sides. Anyone else think its cruel or am I just being a wus??

well... tbh the kind of people who buy a tent without researching it deserve to get wet
i think 1500 would be fine tbh, unless it was really, really torrential... and you're unlikely to go camping in that kind of weather anyway surely?

Don't know but if you have booked and paid up front as many sites expect in the summer hols, you might feel you had to. Especially if you are on a tight budget!!

we go in the rain and take wellies and coats but we have a good tent. Its is very unfair tbh and they should make it clearer, but you as a buyer should do research really.

We have been camping before and seen tents completely ruined by one nights rain and wind. They are often flimsy and the poles just snap and therefore half the tent collapses. We helped rescue a family last year when their tent did this, they had small children and they had only had 3 days of their 7 day camping trip when it was windy and rainy one night and that was the end of their holiday. And i would not say the weather that night was really bad, i have camped in much worse.

Lots of people have no idea that tents come with varying HH if they have never owned a tent before. Tis a tad cruel i agree indeed2.

I know you're not asking but: YANBU!

SanctiMoanyArse · 03/07/2010 10:48

No, yanbu.

Sad thing is, you can get a decent tent for a fairly good price with a good HH and decent size- Hi Gear, for example; E Bay under £150 new.

I have the 1500hh tent pack...the beds fit the pods and its never rained in yet!!

Lucky you lovesdogs.... I hope it continues to serve you well.

I agree that people should research tents before buying one, but its such a minefield out there. I was lucky to have been a guide and camped in c..p tents in foul weather. It taught me many lessons. Lucky for Guides now, most units use quality tents although saw a few dodgy ones at a national event a few weeks ago.
