hiya,
i seen this reduced to £89.99 and just wondered if anyone has this and can tell me whether the ground sheet is attached in the bedrooms or not,the reviews have conflicting comments and the guy in halfords doesnt know!

or any other recommendations for a tent for 4/6 people with 2 bedrooms and an attached groundsheet for £100 or less????I dont mind if its just a tent for £100 rather than a package.
thankyou x

Oooh I don't know! I bought one for dd1 yesterday. I need her to unpack it then I can tell you! I think she'll be miffed if it's not attached

DesolationAngel · 01/07/2010 19:16

I'm selling my Vango Icarus 500 it has a sewn in groundsheet. The bedroom runs along the back and can be used as 1 or 2 bedrooms. I am wanting £100 for it plus delivery. Pictures are on here

Look at UK campsite forum [http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=32&TopicID=215191&PagePositio n=1 here]

piglips · 01/07/2010 19:24

Looking at the UK campsite forum here it doesn't look too promising

hocuspontas · 01/07/2010 19:35

Yikes! I think I might take ours back....

Needanewname · 01/07/2010 19:38

I have to say that generally you get what you pay for, if you're new to camping and want to just try it out then upgrade to something better if you like it then great but I doubt it'll be very good quality or have a sewn in ground sheet whi is essential if you ask me!

I'm a bit of a novice camper, but dh and I bought a Halfords tent on special offer for £100 including 4 sleeping bags a couple of years ago. I'm no expert, but dh says he's amazingly impressed with it, especially considering the price. It has a bedroom at each end. The ground sheet in the bedrooms is attached. I don't know if it's exactly the same, but it sounds v. similar. Just spent a fab weekend in it with the 2 dc. HTH

sazm · 01/07/2010 20:43

oh yep goldberry thats the one,
there are a lot of bad reviews, but also quite a few good reviews!!hmm,it was mainly the fact of whether the groundsheet was attached in the bedrooms that worried me,so thats good,
might have another wee look at some on the internet before i decide.
thankyou

If you want to use ot for 6 people it needs to be a 6 berth tent minimum; I am selling a 4 berth brand new Hi Gear Gobi for £100 that I won in a competition but I don't think it would be big enough. The Icarus furtehr down may be, you'd need to pull up sizes and be honest about whether it needs toc ope with 6.

I wuldn't touch the hlafords one tbh. We =did start with a cheapo Argodss one and it was fine but it was only as we had vouchers fro Christmas, and we replaced within a year. I would far rather recommend someone buy a ssecond hand excellent name from ebay than take risks- vango,. khyam, gelert, outwell, easycamp, sunncamp all fine.

emilyprentiss · 02/07/2010 09:16

I'd put my money towards something better, or get on eBay and look for something bigger & higher quality for around the same price.

We bought the Halfords pack to start with. To be fair, the tent held up under really heavy rain, but the groundsheet in the central area isn't sewn in and so it was a bit drafty. The sleeping bags that come with it are OK but quite thin, you need lots in the way of extra blankets etc.

It's alright for a trial run, but if you like it, you'll pretty quickly decide you need something better, so I wouldn't spend your £90 on the Halfords stuff in the first place.

sazm · 02/07/2010 09:56

ok so probably best to hold off, i seen one in millets that looked good, will have a look at some more and get some reviews from here on it.

theres 2 adults and i have a 6yo,4yo and a 19mo,so 4 man would do,but 6man would hopefully last a bit longer.
it i could find one with a built in groundsheet in the whole tent,i might have room for a small travel cot??

thanks all

I would also look at the hydrostatic head on it too (waterproofing), personally i would not buy anything with a hh of less than 3000 as our very first tent was 2000 and it rained on our first night camping and we got very wet!!

sazm · 02/07/2010 10:33

ooh,ok, will have a look around and come back to u all!!

thanx x

Slightly over your budget but this has a sewn in groundsheet here

Or you could do Go Outdoors (15% off this weekend) and go for this

Somerset camping have this Wynnster tent with sig here Wynnster are a really good quality brand. We had a tent from them that lasted 5 years before we upgraded to a bigger one.

sazm · 02/07/2010 12:14

thanks ebay addict,

feeling old said she would only use something that had a HH of 3000 or more as the in one she had with 2000 they got wet???

we haven't been camping before but am struggling to see any like i want, with 2/3 bedrooms and a full sewn in groundsheet,am i being too fussy for our first camping trips?or am i going to need to up my budget a good bit?

halfords don't do true sales, they just inflate the price before-hand.

sazm · 02/07/2010 12:27

yep the price is always £99 lol , but it is down to £89?
and for everything (airbeds and sleeping bags)

the other tents are going to cost me more than double by the time i have bought airbeds and sleeping bags for everyone,
if the halfords one done us this summer i could upgrade stuff in the end of season sales??

racmac · 02/07/2010 13:17

I looked at this as well but decided that the likliehood is that the sleeping bags and beds were not going to be top quality so i priced them up elsewhere and bought tent off ebay.

The tent i got is on argos for £45 or £55 i think - its a proline one and its not top quality but will do me till i decide whether i like camping or not i only paud £25 on ebay

I got the tent, sleeping bags, beds etc for a lot less than £89
