M&D are buying a caravan for general family use (yay!!) we have not been caravanning since 1980 and I assume things have changed a little since then.

we would love to be able to look at the weather forcast and say - yay lets go to the beach and hook up the van and go. but I have no real knowledge if it works like that.
How do I find lovely sites? are there specialistwebsites like there are for "nice" B&B's and hotels?

please share your wisdom to a very green caravanner

not sure on much info because only ever been to one site and our caravan stays there, but ....some people are members of the 'caravan club' and their website recommends sites.
i think your'll find not much has changed. were you hoping it had ?

thanks ladies,

I do hope it has changed a bit, I just remember having to go to the loo in a bucket that had a seat on it and my dad emptied it every day.
and my brother peeing on me through the mesh of the top bunk

By the Power.... that's exactly how our family caravan holidays worked in the 80's with the mesh top bunk and the portaloo, etc. Lots have changed. Our new van doesn't have gas lights, nor a cool box nor only a 2 ring burner! It's luxury.

We're members of the caravan club, with them you can book their sites online, without paying a deposit, reviews are very good on UK campsite website, and other info there too.

Unfortunately caravan thefts/break-ins are rife so look into that side of things, we've just had ours broken into and a friends stolen.

However, we have been away 3 times so far and looking forward to Aug in Devon and the bank holiday elsewhere. 5 holidays this year can't be bad, can it??

5 holidays in a year sounds great!

ooh I forgot about the gas lights
