What do people use for a fire on campsites that don't want camp fires?

I really like a fire when camping but haven't gone down the gadget route. What are these fire pits you hear about? Is there anything better and are you allowed to use them on no campfire campsites?

you can buy fire logs that go on a bbq. not tried them myself. generally though we just do without.
Am facing 2 weeks in a region that doesnt allow bbqs this summer. that one is puzzling me slightly as we have a one ring burner.

we brought a fire pit before our holiday, and we used it nearly every night, it was very good
got ours from asda for £20

Try a bucket bbq- sainsburys and tesco do them for £10-£12.

We have a fold-up notebook barbecue and you can put firelogs in it to create your own firepit. Tis an excellent space saving piece of camping kit.

Where do these firelogs come from and what are they called please?

Wiggletastic · 21/06/2010 10:00

We first got them at Centerparcs, they are duraflame firelogs, you can get a big pack of them on ebay for about £25 and they last for ages.

I got my firelogs from asda , you can get them at garden centres or petrol stations too. We also have the same firepit as Lisa.

Check your local supermarkets or wilkinsons. I got mine at sainsburys, they are in the aisle where they have cleaning stuff, light bulbs that sort of thing.

We just put a firelog on the bbq after we have finished cooking, they last about 2 hours and give off quite a bit of heat but no smoke. bu them from petrol stations.
